{ ➳ } — So they caught his murmur. A tad awkward, but he dealt with it. Scratching the back of his head, the Czech broke eye contact with Gram to continue peering about the shop. Regardless, Milos was willing to shell out plenty on the work.

“Food? S’gonna be a big thing if I get this done for him. I’ll get you more than food.” A hint of a smile graced the typically rough demeanor of the smuggler as he took a few steps closer to Gram. “How much you want for an arm? I’ll pay you up front.”

“Ooh?” The prospect of actual money was a tempting one. Gram usually let their clients pay what they could, although they couldn’t honestly say this was purely out of the goodness of their heart. While their work could be very intricate, they were able to scavenge materials from houses that had been abandoned and left empty. It wasn’t stealing, really, not if the previous owners had given up all their old worldly possessions to go live as gods.

“Don’t have a set price list,” they said, “though I could tell you it was a lot more than the usual charge now that you’ve revealed to me you have money. I’m not quite that much of an asshole, though, or at least I don’t seem to be right this moment. What kinda arm’re we talkin here?”

❛              uh, yeah? Do you not? I figured that was a common thing … isn’t it? ❜   Vidalia eyed her companion with an arch to her brow. She wasn’t really sure what to make of them, especially their basement. But, hey, she would do anything for art.

“Yeah, I guess it is but I drink it straight.” Drink was a strong word. Gram set the coffee on the floor above them and climbed up with an armful of paper. They laid out their drawings on a low table- black and white sketches of strange wings and limbs and bones, and one fully colored page of a person with sharp teeth and bright blue tattoos, their red hair in a braid down their back. “There ya go.”

sludge coffee

sludge coffee is the common name for the kind of coffee poor people (not gods) drink in gram’s universe

it’s the consistency of mud basically. or sludge, hence the name

most people spoon a small amount into their cups and then mix it with hot water to create something similar to really bad quality black coffee

gram is the only person gram knows who just drinks/eats it straight, because that’s just a crazy amount of caffeine and also it tastes terrible
