I'm really tired of people saying Bloodborne's message is just 'femininity' or that Bloodborne is 'just about women simply' because that doesn't even constitute as an analysis of any piece of art? not just Bloodborne? Everything is about women and everything is about gender in general because we are informed by our social and cultural constructs when we make and view art... saying anything is, simply, 'about women' is liking saying grass is green. or the sky is blue. No fucking shit. The focus of women in Bloodborne is instead on how the woman is a part of the body of the political Other. The position of the Other allows those identified as such to be abused by the healing church. In order to maintain that Bloodborne is 'just about women' you have to ignore the plethora of discussions the game holds about other people who have been identified with the Other and resultantly abused by the Church (does this sound familiar ... Bloodborne is probably the most obviously allegorical fromsoft game). And like once again, something can't just be about 'women' because everything is about gender. since it is a social construct we maintain. I am pretty sure you have to be saying something about what Bloodborne identifies as a 'woman', what it has to say about the criteria for said identification, and what those who are identified as women are subjected to, alongside the various other people who are also identified as Others, for your analysis to be even considered an analysis. But whatever.I guess
