"Hey, it's okay." Aiko pulled her chair closer to the bedside, hoping that being nearer might encourage Rune to settle down. Historically, it had never been easy to keep her relaxed in the hospital without pharmaceutical intervention, and now that she wasn't on the clock, Aiko couldn't pull any strings in that regard.
"We have all the time in the world now. Once they let you out of here you can come back to my house. It's... Exactly the same as you last saw it, but all of my food is a decade out of date." There had been a housekeeper making sure things were dust-free, but everything was largely untouched, down to one of Rune's t-shirts still hanging on the towel rack in the bathroom. It had been heartbreaking to see when she first arrived home, when she didn't think Rune was still around.
It was strange. So much time had passed. So much had happend. But at the same time, it felt just like it did then. Like those ten years hadn't ever passed. Like they were never apart. Rune calmed down and relaxed a little.
"You're.. Really back" Her voice cracked. She couldn't help but feel stupid for how she acted thinking Aiko was dead. What she'd think if she knew the trouble Rune made. She grit her teeth. But it didn't matter now. She's alive. And she's here.
"Food won't be an isuue.. They've come really far in delivery. They use drones now" Rune forced a small smile. Was it really okay to be happy about this? It still felt surreal.
"Drones? Really?" Aiko hadn't exactly been a fan of having a stranger deliver food to her home, but drones were a new level of weird. But as long as it meant she could get her kitchen refilled without setting foot in the grocery store, she wouldn't complain.
"You're going to have to get me caught up on whatever social media people are using now. Nobody's on Facebook anymore. I tried looking for you there, actually." She pulled her phone from her pocket and navigated to an old profile of Rune's. "I only found this profile for you, and your last post was... This selfie you took with a stray cat six years ago?"
