intention ✨
i love when artists do things with an intention set in their mind. i think back to michael jackson wearing white tape on his fingers and white socks with dark shoes. i am sure you probably know the reason, but if you didn't it was because he wanted everyone to focus on his rapid movements rather than himself. drawing the audience's eyes to movement of his hands and feet, creating a stage presence for those who even sat in the back, so that they could experience him too.
it also became a signature part of his personal brand too, so once you saw someone walking in with white socks and black loafers, you automatically knew who it was.
and because nothing new is under the sun here are his inspirations: bob fosse, fred astaire, gene kelly, michael bush (mj's costume designer).
