1. is how i normally do imagines, write a short prompt and maybe throw in some dialogue

2. bullet points that go over multiple possible outcomes

3. dialogue only prompts. these can either be a conversation between S/I and F/O or things the F/O will say to you. or multiple things your F/O will say depending on the situation.

note: for the dialogue one, if you have a certain F/O in mind and they speak a certain way, please describe it so i can be accurate! /gen

please clarify which one you want when requesting :]

- these are all platonic prompts, with that said, i will do things like kissing because kissing doesn't have to be romantic and i know some platonic F/Os kiss their friends

- no NSFW, i'm not comfortable with that. i will take requests that talk about sex / get suggestive these will be tagged as suggestive.

You decide to introduce your two F/Os to each other, it's nerve racking, they're complete opposites of each other but F/O A had wanted to meet F/O B.

Steeling your nerves you wait with F/O B for F/O A to show up, and they do, you smile as you're quick to rush up and hug them. You've always loved hugging F/O A as they seemed to give giant bear hugs and lift you up every so slightly as they did.

"Nice to meet you, F/O A." F/O B smiles, holding out their hand.

"Pleasure is all mine!" F/O A takes both hands into F/O B's singular one.

You feel greatly nervous.

Even so, the day goes on and your F/os seem to be enjoying talking to each other, you smile.

"Aw," F/O A frowns when looking at their drink after having just tasted it.

"What's wrong?" You ask.

F/O A huffs, "they got my order wrong."

You also frown, about to offer them your own even though the drink will likely go untouched.

"Excuse me," both of you snap your heads to F/O B. "You got my friends order wrong."

The employee is apologetic, asking what the original order was and you're quick to chime in with F/O A's favorite drink

You forgot that F/O B never let things go unsaid, if they wanted to fix something, they'd fix it.

F/O A smiles at their favorite drink freshly made and thanks F/O B, who shrugs and the conversation continues.

You smile, now knowing that they'll get along just fine.

On the topic of appropriating Japanese terms, we seriously need to talk about other ways the selfship community should adress racism. Even if you don't call yourself a yumeshipper or whatever, you need to think about whether you're creating a space for nonwhite selfshippers to feel comfortable in. Here are some things to think about.

For selfshippers in general:

How do you portray your F/Os? Are your Asian F/Os always made to be the submissive or shy ones of the relationship, regardless of their canon personality? Inversely, is it only the Black/brown F/Os that you always make to be the dominant or aggressive?

If your F/O comes from a nonwhite culture, do you exoticize them for it?

Do you draw your F/Os of color with lighter skin, thinner noses, straighter hair, and/or other whitewashed features then canon?

Do you have or know someone whose F/O is canonically bigoted and if so, why is that something you're willing to overlook? This is such a common occurence and even selfshippers who refuse to call themselves pro/dark/comshippers seem to be completely fine with it, whether they're the ones doing the selfshipping or have mutuals who do so. Claiming "they're redeemed in my canon" doesn't change anything if it's obstensively the same name, design, personality and backstory.

For those making imagines:

Those classic "imagine your F/O running their fingers through your hair" imagines: Are you assuming the reader has straight hair by default? On a similar note, does the way you describe hair length equate it to gender/gender presentation?

When describing the reader or their F/Os blushing, please remember not every skin tone can have red rosy cheeks. Most of us don't even look like we're blushing!

When making a "generic winter themed" imagine/ask game/etc, are you actually just describing Christmas without describing Christmas?* Honestly I'd rant about this more but it isn't winter where I live.

On a similar note, what may be summer for me right now is actually winter in the southern hemisphere and vice versa! Consider imagines for that, as well as wet/dry seasons for those around the equator*

As for how you can help selfshippers of color:

REBLOG ART. REBLOG FANFICTIONS. FOLLOW PEOPLE!! This is the easiest and best way to support selfshippers of color. Don't know where to begin? I highly reccomend following @dreamersofcolor

Speaking out on serious issues has to come before personal comfort. I know it's easy to want to make your blog "discourse-free", but staying quiet when you know something is wrong is enabling it.

Okay I'm not gonna get over this: Do not make any room for selfshippers with racist F/Os or who otherwise treat the topic as inconsequential. It may be "just fiction", but for many of us, being forced to be around racists is what daily life looks like.

And then of course:

If someone points out that you've said or done something racist, stop and think: Are you going to sound like that "yeah I'm racist but you're mean and that's worse" meme in your response? If so, don't say anything beyond "sorry I'll fix that", actually work towards fixing your behavior, and move on.

*I know race, religion and what country you live in are different things, however they still tie into the selfship community being Anglo-centric.

I feel like we don't talk enough about how introducing riako/gachikoi, oshikatsu, and similar terms, as selfship terms has done irreprable damage to the selfship community by turning it into a competition for how much merch you own of your F/O.

Edit just in case this post gets misconstrued: See this addition right here but for some further bulletpoints:

It's not a bad thing to have piles of merch and at the end of the day it's your money

Oshikatsu itself isn't an issue when divorced from the extremist side of fandom/idol culture and I am getting into ita bags personally.

The above should be expressions of your love for your F/O, not proof of it.

I feel like the companies behind your favorite stuff are just as much to blame, especially if your F/O is from something like a gacha game.

This absolutely ties into the overconsumption epidemic but that isn't enough to address the issue; We Need To Destroy Capitalism.

Anyways uhh on a similar note, please think about why you're buying F/O merch and how it's being made. Support independent creators that can be honest about how they make their merchandise and art, and make your own merch if you're able to! It's fun to DIY things.

Back then, owning a bunch of merchandise of your F/O was a novelty. You would look at the guy who owns a bunch of Lola Bunny toys and go "wow, he's really devoted!" because you rarely saw something like that. Those people were so in love with their F/Os, that they went out of their way to buy a lot of merch of them.

Nowadays, it feels like a requirement. Now the expectation is that love your F/Os because of the merch. More merchandise = more love for your F/O. And if you don't have enough merch of them, you aren't actually in love with them. And even if you do have a lot of merch, it's never going to be enough.

I genuinely do blame the use of riako/gachikoi/oshikatsu and similar terms being used for selfshipping because, such terms came from Japanese idol communuties that already encouraged extremely unhealthy views on love and especially with parasocial relationships. Hell, riako/gachikoi literally refer to believing that an idol (as in, a flesh and blood human who exists right here in our world) is in love with you, specifically, and that this is a good thing. A fictional character can't be hurt by you, but a real person will.

Sometimes that real person is you, going into debt to prove yourself the winner of a nonexistent competition. You should buy merch of your F/O because you enjoy having it. If you feel like you "need" to or else you aren't "truly" in love, that's when you need to stop and think about whether you actually like selfshipping or not.

Honestly this is also why I and many others are so critical about Japanese terms being used by non-Asians and especially how prevalent this issue is in selfship spaces. If you can't even tell me where these terms come from and what they mean, stop tacking them onto yourself for aesthetic.

Your F/O lets you look through their phone, you don't do it often, most of the time you ask to look something up on their phone.

This time, you decide to look at their camera roll, you never realized how many pictures they take.

Going to their albums you find one that's just labled: Us.

Bored, you begin to look at the photos and videos, mostly of you and them. Actually, the whole album is just you and them together, you never realized how many photos and videos were taken.

You got used to this, never asking questions, it dates all the way back to when you first met and became friends.

You remember how often they asked to take photos and videos together, until you said they didn't need to ask anymore, still they ask you though it's more casual.

You've had a long day, it's been tiring but your ready to go home and relax. Your F/O insited on taking you to work, even though you know it's a lot to do, especially because of your conflicting schedules.

You smile and wave back, getting into the car, you in the passangerside and them in the diver seat.

No words are spoken, but you feel yourself relax into the carseat and close your eyes. Your F/O puts on your favorite songs, at a low volume as they drive you both home.

Sometimes it's two animals bonding and playing, other times it's background characters from a show doing the most batshit crazy things you know no one would do.

You give a small, apologetic smile, the heat is killing both of you even with the curtains drawn and fans going.

You were scrolling on your phone, mindless something and everything, until. A short video, homemade popsicles.

You'd just bought containers off a whim because you'd done it when you were younger.

"What are you thinking about?" You feel your F/O roll over to your side, leaning their head on your shoulder to look at your phone.

Tilting it so they can read it better, you watch their face instantly light up. They stand up and you follow, and you both get to work to cool down from the heat.

hi, ive only recently gottwn into the selfship world and i saw your banner and was unsure what it meant. ive seeen some posts tagged as yumeshipping and thought it was just another wors for selfship, does it mean something else? :o

hey anon! i'll try to word this as best i can, so apologises if it comes off as rude, blunt or there's little information, it's not my intention. i'm mostly pulling from what i've learned from other people.

yume is taken from the Japanese lexicon, and means dream, the problem with the term "yumeshipping" is that it's stripping the word of it's original meaning and giving it a different one with zero regard to the Japanese language.

this kind of thing is rather common when those that glamourise (sometimes fetishize) Japan, it's language, culture and people. it's a rather common thing that white people (< generalization, but mainly from the west from what i've seen) basically just take something and twist the meaning.

we often see this with AAVE

"yumeshipping" is also supposed to be "cuter" more "acceptable," compared to using self shipping. which is stupid and wrong, many people who are Japanese have asked people to stop using "yumeshipping" as it's very offensive.

i don't want my posts to be tagged with "yume terms" as it repulses me and shows that many don't understand the original meaning of yume. this is especially bad with newcommers who simply follow the crowd.

self shipping was more contained and just a group of people who liked to share their loved ones with others, with the popularization of "yumeshipping" it's more-or-less become about popularity, which this community has never been about.

sorry if this is worded poorly. if someone else can explain it better in the comments or reblogs i'll happily share it, i'm still relatively new to the community as well, and this is simply what i've heard from other people.

regardless, you shouldn't use "yumeshipping" or "yume terms," due to the nature of how Japan has had it's language, culture and people glamourised and fetishized.

Your F/O carefully detangles the knots in your hair.

For the bigger ones it's a comb and they're careful as to not be rough, holding it in their hands and running the comb over the knot of hair over and over again.

The smaller ones are easy, justing running their fingers through your hair, index and middle finger splitting the tinny knot of hair in half before continuing.

Music is playing, low, but it fills the silence between you and your F/O. They offered to drive, inisting it was their turn, you know it's because you work so hard and you're likely sporting eyebags.

It doesn't matter though, because you know your F/O works just as hard as you do, next time it'll be your turn to drive at night while they look out the passanger window and at the sky.

Now, you stare at the cieling, before tilting your head back to look at your F/O, and you smile.
