“You’re not going to lose me,” she sighed. “Not forever, at least. I promised you I would always come back, remember?” That hadn’t changed. There were a lot of things that made her want to leave him, but she knew she would never be able to stay away for long. She loved him too much to be without him. “Yeah, sorry. I know it probably just makes your chest all wet,” Malia laughed. “But too bad.” Her nose scrunched up when he said that leftover pizza made him happy. “Ew,” she scoffed. “The cheese is always weird the next day. And it doesn’t get better when you microwave it or put it in the oven. Weird things make you happy.” Malia shrugged when he continued to talk about Kira. She really didn’t want to be in any way involved, so even hearing about his plans and thoughts about it all was upsetting her. “This is Kira we’re talking about. It would be different if it were Stiles, Scott, or even Lydia. Even if she finds out, if we’re on the other side of the country, I doubt she will go out of her way to track you down. And Paige? Really? I’ll kill her- that will solve that problem.” Malia paused for a moment before letting out a sigh. “I want us to move away. I want something more with us.”

"I know, but I don’t want to lose you temporarily either,” he shrugged. His smile grew when she laughed and it helped relax him a lot. That sound was much, much better than the sound of her crying, which was all he really heard since he’d be back. Plus, he was beginning to feel a lot drunker, so things were getting easier. “It’s alright, I’m used to it at this point,” he grinned. A small laugh left his lips at her next statement. “Says the girl who gets happy because of sleeping with her hair wet. That’s pretty weird.” Theo shrugged again on the topic of Kira. “Like I said, we don’t know the conditions. I don’t even know how I got out of wherever I was. I don’t know if they let me go or if I got out myself. If she knows I’m alive, she might have to send me back there in order to get whatever she wants from them, so I want to get her out of the way before that happens. It’s possible that she might have to track me down,” he explained. “If you want to kill Paige, fine. I already said I wouldn’t stop you.” He let out a sigh and shook his head. “I’m not changing my mind about Kira, so there’s no point in talking about it anymore.” His eyebrows furrowed at her last words. He said he was okay with moving away, even if just temporarily, but it was still a bit more complicated than that. Theo was still an alpha with a pack that all lived in Beacon Hills. But he needed to stay on her good side right now and he knew getting out of town would help him too, so he was going to hear her out. “What do you mean you ‘want something more with us?’” he questioned. “Where would you want to go?”

“I don’t know,” she mumbled under her breath, offering a small shrug. “But sure, okay,” she agreed. If he knew he would be able to drop the fighting, she would be willing to cooperate. Whatever it took to bring them back to normal was some- thing she was definitely willing to do. “Yeah, that might be a good idea,” Malia nodded. Hopefully talking to the chimeras about their experiences would help him cope with all of this better, since there was not much she could do to help at this point. When he explained a small thing that made him happy, Malia furrowed her eyebrows at him with a small grin, before turning her entire body onto her side to face him. “That makes you happy?” She asked in disbelief, giving him a confused look. She hadn’t even thought about that. “I like when I go to bed with wet hair and when i wake up in the morning it’s perfectly dry and wavy with zero effort. Not that I really put any effort into my hair anyway,” she shrugged. “I just don’t think that Kira is hell-bent on trying to find you, no offense. If she doesn’t even know you’re alive now, why would go looking for you? She thinks you’re dead. So if we just pack up and move to a different state, she’ll never know.” Malia really didn’t want to hear about her friend being killed, but she didn’t think there was much more to say because his mind seemed to be made up. Instead of saying anymore, she just shrugged and casted her eyes toward the ground.

Theo nodded once when she agreed to just not fight. It would be hard, but he thought he could do it. Or at least, he hoped he could. He was still pretty unstable, so it was going to take a lot of effort. “We can do it. We have to. The last thing I need right now is to lose you, so we’ll figure it out,” he assured her. He nodded again as she did. That was something he’d only do if he got desperate, but it was still an option. His smile grew when she turned over onto her side. “Yeah, it makes me happy,” he confirmed. “It’s relaxing.” The smile held on his lips when she explained another thing that made her happy. “I don’t like when you go to sleep with your hair wet,” he told her with a small shrug. “It’s a weird feeling to have someone cuddle up to you with damp hair. But I’m glad it makes you happy. Leftover pizza makes me happy. It always tastes better the second day.” Theo liked this. It felt much easier than the conversation they were having before. It felt normal. “No, you’re right, she isn’t hell bent on finding me. I’m just concerned about her when she does find out I’m alive. Whatever deal she made with the Skinwalkers------we don’t know the conditions. We don’t know if I need to stay dead,” he shrugged. “Let’s say someone from our pack slips up and she finds out I’m alive. Then what? Or what if Paige tells someone and Kira hears about it? I want her to not find out I’m alive, but I can’t be positive she never will. It’s best to take her out as soon as possible instead of waiting around, wondering if and when she’ll come after me. I’m just trying to protect myself.” Theo knew Malia wasn’t going to have an easy time with this and while that frustrated him, he didn’t want it to start anything between them. “You’re not going to be involved, so there’s nothing to worry about. It’ll be over quickly if I can do this soon. Dragging it out is just going to make it harder.”

“It’s not that easy,” Malia whined, shaking her head and frowning. “I can’t just tell him she can’t come because he’s practically obsessed with her and he’ll just be upset if I don’t like her. Just like you said, they’re in that honeymoon phase, so it’s not going to get better for a couple of weeks.” Unfortunately. “It’s not just a ring,” she said stubbornly. “I wanted him to keep it on. It has been over eight years since the crash, and he still wore it up until now. That doesn’t even make sense.” It was a little bit unrealistic for Malia to just assume he’d continue wearing it forever, but she didn’t understand how he could wear it for so long after and then just suddenly stop. “Well, I don’t like spending time apart,” she mumbled. Malia stared at the screen as he wrapped an arm around her to bring her closer and pecked her cheek. “Didn’t you have a favorite movie when you were a little kid?” She blurted out. “That’s what I want to watch. Your favorite movie when you were a little kid.” She opened her mouth when he held out a spoonful of ice-cream to her, then rested her head against his shoulder, letting out a sigh.

“Then wait a couple weeks,” he suggested. “A couple of weeks isn’t that long. It’ll be okay. And you don’t have to make it clear you don’t like her if you ask him to hang out with only you two there. You just have to say you want some alone time with him. It’s not that strange of a request.” Though, Malia was blunt, so it was likely more difficult for her than he was making it out to be. “If it’s not just a ring, then what is it?” he prompted. Theo shrugged at her comment. “It’s a little weird if he’s dating someone and still wearing a wedding ring, you have to admit.” He nodded as she mumbled. “I don’t either, but if we don’t sometimes, then our fights would be a lot harder to get over.” Theo took a long pause after she blurted out what she wanted to watch. He wasn’t one to think too much about his childhood. There wasn’t a point in it. Everything was so different now that he preferred to just forget how things used to be. “Jumanji, I guess,” he finally said with a shrug. “That’s the one I think I watched the most.” Theo scrolled through Netflix until he found the movie and hesitantly pressed play. He was slightly uncomfortable with doing something that had a connection to the happier parts of his past, but he figured he wasn’t going to be paying much attention to the movie anyway, so he’d get over it. When Malia rested her head on his shoulder, he pressed a kiss to the top of her head, wrapping his arm tighter around her. “I love you,” he said with a small grin.

“I don’t think that he really cares. He says it’s different because he’s an adult and ‘I’m a child,’ but I’m really not a child because I’m 18. I just wish he’d take a break from her so he could spend alone time with me, or something. I hate sharing you know I hate sharing. So having to share my dad is the worst. Especially with some annoying lady,” she whined, shaking her head and rolling her eyes. When he mentioned that the ring wasn’t a big deal, Malia frowned, looking down. “It’s a big deal to me,” she mumbled. She was really confused when he continued to wrap her up in the blanket, so tight that she was practically unable to move. “Well, when we fight you don’t want me here,” she added. Malia was just upset, so everything was coming out very negative. “How can I eat if I can barely move my arms?” She asked. “But ice- cream I guess.”

“You’re not a child at all. You’ve been through a hell of a lot more than he has anyway, so he shouldn’t be treating you like a child. I know you hate sharing,” he said with a small grin. “Just make plans with your dad sometime and tell him not to bring her with because you just want it to be the two of you,” he suggested. When she frowned and spoke, he shook his head. “Well, maybe it’s not a big deal to him. And that’s okay, it’s just a ring. Considering everything you’ve told me about how he kept pretty much everything in your house the same and how he seems to still not be over it, I doubt he’s just going to get over your mom. I wouldn’t worry about his new girlfriend trying to steal him away from her.” Theo shrugged at her comment. “Sometimes it’s better for us to spend time apart. It still sucks when that happens though and I always wish you were here and we weren’t fighting,” he countered. When she told him what she wanted, he left the room and walked into the kitchen to grab her favorite ice cream and a spoon. “I’m supposed to feed you, I guess,” he said, furrowing his eyebrows. Before sitting down next to her, he turned on Netflix and shrugged. “I don’t have Wizard of Oz and I only have horror movies, so pick something else.” He wrapped one arm around her, pulling her closer to him so he could press a quick kiss to her cheek before using his other hand to open the container of ice cream and scooping some out to give to her.

“Theo, it’s so easy to just say that,” she sighed. “Things change when it’s in the moment. What if we can’t do that?” Malia didn’t know much about how chimeras worked, even after all this time living with Theo and working closely with all of them. But she hoped what he was saying was right. Maybe he just needed a little bit of time to sort this all out. And maybe he’d be just fine in a matter of time. She didn’t know, but she hoped. “Well, if there’s anything I can do to help…” she trailed off with a shrug. Malia watched as he finished with the alcohol and moved to lay down next to her. When he turned to face her, she remained on her back, staring up at the ceiling. She could definitely feel him looking at her, but she didn’t feel like she could move. The words that he suddenly blurted out certainly caught Malia by surprise. That was the last thing she was expecting to come from him, but it was a nice change from the heavy conversation that had just been having. “Uh…” she thought for a few moments, before turning her head to look over at him. “Gummy bears. Gummy bears make me happy because they taste good and they’re colorful and squishy. And small. I don’t know.” She shrugged with a small smile. “What about you? What’s something small that makes you happy?” Malia sighed as he continued about Kira. She didn’t want to think that Kira would do anything like that. And especially not for a second time. “Well, maybe I can find out,” she shrugged. “And it’s not like she would be able to find us if we moved without telling anyone.”

“Well, what other choice do we have?” he asked, raising his eyebrows. “If we don’t, we’re just going to keep fighting and it’s fucking destroying us, Malia. We have to try. If we start to fight again, I will be the one to drop it. I promise.” When she offered her help and trailed off, he nodded. “I know. I don’t think there will be, but if there is, I’ll let you know. And if I get desperate, I can try talking to one of the other chimeras. They’ve been through it, so they might be able to help.” But that was only if he got really desperate. Otherwise, he refused to let them see him this weak. Theo noticed how she didn’t move when he laid down next to her. It made him sad because he was so used to her curling up into him whenever he laid down beside her. But he hoped she would be more likely to do it, give him that sense of slightly normality, if the conversation continued to lighten up and things got a little bit less tense between them. It made him feel a bit better to see her talk about something like that because it was simple, which helped ease his mind a bit. When he saw the small smile on her lips, one crossed his own. “That’s a good one,” he nodded before pausing to think of his own response. “You know when you flip a pillow over to the cool side on a hot night? That makes me happy.” Theo shrugged. “I don’t want any of them to know I’m alive yet, so how would you do that? She could find out somehow. There are always ways to find someone.” He paused, letting out a small sigh. “I don’t think there’s anything you can say to change my mind about this. Killing her is the only way I’m going to feel safe and okay.” And the only way he can properly get revenge. “I only told you to warn you that I was doing it so you wouldn’t get too upset with me once it happens.”
