UNITY Social Gaming’s Easy LoL Guide
League of Legends, the game that has taken the world by storm.
Back in September of last year there were over a hundred million unique players actively playing each month.
You may not be one of them, and that’s why we’ve created this easy guide so you can be ready for our event next sunday: goo.gl/mmzL5q
Nonetheless, the League of Legends website has the best resources when it come to figuring out the ins and outs of the game.
Check out their 5 minute video here:

It does a great job of explaining everything that comes below, but just in case we got you covered, whether you’re in game or spectating and need a refresher.
Runeterra, the world where league of legends take place, is home to many wonders, provinces and factions. This diverse universe is complete with its own history and culture.

The League itself is an arena where champions of each faction, nation, province or culture wishes to fight for their purpose.
Check out Karma, an enlightened priestess shooting spiritual flameballs, from the island continent Ionia, who fights within the League to make a stand for her nation, on the brink of war.

What is the Goal of the Game?
As a wise Summoner, you control one of Runeterra’s champions and along with your 4 teammates must destroy the enemy’s Nexus before they destroy yours.
The Nexus is a fragile, crystal-like building, found deep behind enemy lines, heavily guarded by sturdy turrets… and the opposing team (it wouldn’t be too interesting otherwise right?) !
There are currently 138 different champions that you can play to battle in the League. Each has its own abilities and playstyle. You will find great mages that kill from afar like Lux, vomit spitting monstrosities like Kog’Maw and angry, axe-wielding Berserkers like Olaf. Each fulfilling a specific role that can synergies with various teammates to overcome your enemies.

The map, Summoners rift, is composed of the two teams’ bases, in the bottom left and top right corners. 3 lanes, appropriately called top, mid and bot go from one base to another. Between each lane is the Jungle. The river runs from the top left corner straight through to the bottom right corner.
This area between the lanes, shrouded in the fog of war, is inhabited by neutral monsters. Slaying them provides rewards of gold and experience points. Due to its pathways you can traverse the Jungle, to join another lane, or to outnumber your enemy.
The minions are computer controlled little soldiers that are sent periodically down each lane to fight each other. They will only stop when the enemy nexus is destroyed!
They will fight by your side and are mostly used to use as a meat shield when enemy fireballs are incoming!
Experience Points, Levels and Gold
There are 2 ways for your champion to grow stronger: through Levels and through items.
All champions start at level 1, and will progressively level up to level 18 by collecting experience points, when close to a dying foe.
Dealing the last blow on any enemy rewards champions not only with experience points but also with gold. Minions are worth around 20 gold, while enemy champions around 300 gold! Guess what that means: winning champion fights is critical. All that earned gold can then be spent buying items, such as mystical sword and shields to beat up the opposing team even harder.
During a game, as Champions get stronger and stronger, teams will fight for important objectives such as turrets, dragons and the Baron.
Turrets are the bases’ first line of defense. They shoot lasers and hit hard, but will prioritise hitting minions if you are not fighting close to their range of attack. When they are destroyed they give a lot of gold to your whole team.
In total there are 11 turrets on each side, 3 per lane and 2 more guarding each teams nexus. You need to go through, taking them down on your way to victory.
The Elemental drakes found in the map’s river, provide permanent bonuses when killed by a team. These range from more damage for your team to out-of-combat movement speed. At the 35 minute, a huge Elder Drake spawns, a tough foe that double all bonuses from previously slain drakes.
The Baron is a purple worm-like boss that appears at the 20 minute mark in the river. Slaying this big boss will grant a bonus to your team that will empower your minions to siege far more efficiently. Definitely a game changer!
