nothing is as tender as annotating your favourite books. it’s like leaving a piece of your heart on the pages for somebody else to find.
studying at home on a rainy day <3
I‘m back home. The last terms of the bachelor degree I n front of me. En garde! 🤓
“Frankenstein can easily be turned into a biographers sandpit, but Mary’s story of promethean ambition, of rejection, the denial of love, and the danger of judging by appearances, was intended to carry the weight of a social message. What may have begun as an extension of the story of an Arctic explorer, or as a gothic tale for fireside thrills, was developed as a vehicle for ideas and social criticism. But when, in later life, she spoke of creature and book in one breath as ‘my hideous progeny’ and invited it to ‘go forth and prosper,’ she was aware that dramatized versions had already drained its life-fluid while hugely increasing its fame.”
~ Mary Shelley, Miranda Seymour, p.173
09.07.21 | Benefit: Had a productive day catching up on my public policy courses. Cost: Trying to sleep but can’t turn brain off. Now it’s midnight and I’m playing with filters.
this morning: baking cookies, movies with my mother, organization, readings and group projects
this afternoon: an essay, an article review, three letters to the class, and a topic response
I hate posts that are like "someone less talented than you is doing what you want to do because they aren't scared" of course they ain't scared of shit they're nepotism babies — they got the name, the ressources and the money.

I think I got rejected from my dream internship yesterday :( I was so sad and depressed, I literally couldn’t do anything. Spent the entire day thinking about all the shit that I went through, and if it was really all worth it. Like I don’t know. Would I have been better qualified, more knoweldgable and skilled, if I didn’t have to go through so much shit with my family and community? Like I see my peers, who have actually not had people pulling them down and telling them they belong in the kitchen and below men, and they’re doing well! Would I have had the same chance at life as them if I had a similar background? Would I? or is failure inherent in myself?
okay this post is no longer relevant because I got myself a new better dream internship, and I got accepted so yolo now
something relatively traumatic happened in my family today and I realised my grandmom and I have very similar coping mechanisms, where she flips through the bible , and i scroll through tumblr. eventually both of us find smth to keep us going.
bro not to start again on names but u ever think abt how some names have been used for centuries, millenniums even…like how many times has the earth heard a mother calling, ‘alexander!’…how many times have the stars caught a lover whispering, ‘freyja’…how many times has the ground we’ve walked on and continue to walk on felt vibrations of a friend excitedly yelling, ‘mary!’
#names are so amazing because everyone’s name is *theirs* but that name has been used thousands of times by so many people but right then and #there it is *their* name #and theirs alone [@flower-borne]

#how beautiful is it that we did our best to find the loveliest sounds the human voice can make #and assigned those sounds to one another #so that our whole identity is inexplicably linked to something made with love in mind [@honeytuesday]
+
#how ppl are named after family members; or after the things we love and that inspire us (hope; faith; not to mention all the non-english #names with meanings of beauty and kindness and intelligence; also how a lot of names have biblical or otherwise religious origin); how names #translate over countries and languages (mary/marie/maria/etc); how some don’t translate as well bc of linguistic differences (julia/yulia) [@maryolive]
+
#how names hold stories and history and how one name is enough to bring back memories! #how parents fondly choose a name because of the meaning and wish their child carries the legacy of the name forward #how we have silly nicknames for each other and it’s like here’s a part of you given to you from my side and now it’s ours #the name of your enemy is the name of my lover and both have spurned us so here we are grieving different people of same names [@ijaazat]
