I don’t really have much of a say on this since I ship UkUs and not UsUk, but very VERY early portrayals of UsUk were always weird to me.

1) Their whole relationship built on Arthur’s trauma and depression from the Revolutionary War. Honestly, Arthur probably hardly even thinks about that time, and he definitely wouldn’t get depressed and harm himself over it. And it feels more like an obligation on Alfred’s part to be in a relationship with him so he doesn’t go over the edge. It’s a mix of guilt tripping and victim blaming on both of their parts.

2)Personally, I don’t see Arthur falling in love with Alfred during his time as a colony, in fact, I don’t think he even developed romantic feelings for Alfred until around WWI era. Now, Alfred, I definitely believe had a puppy crush on Arthur for the longest time and fell in love with him first. I also think Arthur knew this, but brushed it off as hero worship and didn’t think twice about it.

3) Yes, England is emotionally constipated, but again, having his whole life revolving around seemingly unrequited love just doesn’t seem right. Even if America didn’t love him like that(again, I firmly believe Alfred was the first one in love), he would probably get over it or try not to think about it too much. And why is he so shy and inexperienced, this is England we’re talking about 😭
