13 Hours

Since the new update to Animal Crossing New Leaf entitled Welcome Amiibo and not Welcome Home as I was calling it I have logged in 13 hours of play time. I am having a blast doing the usual Animal Crossing activities but the new features are what have me investing more of my free time than I thought I would into this game. I try to hit all of my daily objectives to earn as many MEOW tickets as I can. I am scanning in one new amiibo a day to see what furniture they have to order and then decorating my house with my new stuff. I am also having fun deciding whom will get to live in my village by inviting new characters in like Inkwell from Splatoon, Wolf Link from Twilight Princess and others which means I have to kick others out as my population reaches maximum. All of the new features I just mentioned are keeping me busy in Animal Crossing New Leaf Welcome Amiibo and those aren’t even all of the new features that can be found in this game. Nintendo out did themselves with Animal Crossing New Leaf from launch to newest update, it truly is a great game! That is all I have for now, just wanted to say a few things about the new Animal Crossing update now I have to get back to the Island and gather more bugs, fish and sea creatures to sell for bells!

Live Long and 3DS

I have been enjoying the benefits of the 3DS for a few years now and along the way I have been trying to encourage others who call gaming a hobby to pick one up. I doubt that over the past four years I have been able to get anyone to pick up the 3DS which is a shame because it is a really good gaming platform. I spend a least one hour per day playing on my 3DS a feat I can't say I have been able to replicate on any one of my home consoles, and I have all the latest systems. Time is the biggest factor in why I spend more time on my 3DS than any other system, or the lack of time. The 3DS' portability is the key reason why I love it so much, the ability to play it almost anywhere and at any time makes it ideal for my situation. When I come across anyone whom talks of the days before children and how they use to game three to four hours per day but now find it difficult I suggest the 3DS. I relay my own experience with children, gaming and how the 3DS has helped bridge that chasm. Like I said I doubt my anecdotes have helped to convince anyone to pick the 3DS but hopefully a newly announced price drop for the system on Black Friday will do the trick. At 100 bucks the system is ripe for the picking for anyone who wants to game on the go. With the 3DS' huge game library both physical and digital and a hefty price drop I shouldn't find it hard to find people willing to try it out even with the Switch on the horizon. Whether or not anyone takes advantage of the Black Friday price drop on the 3DS I know I will enjoy mine for years to come.

The Dark Souls of Animal Crossing

Over the past week I have been splitting my free time between two games Dark Souls III and Animal Crossing New Leaf. I have owned Animal Crossing New Leaf for a couple of years now and just picked up Dark Souls III a week ago but they are both good games that I wanted to blog about. Animal Crossing New Leaf just got a new update or DLC after being out three years in the US called the Welcome Home edition. The new content for Animal Crossing is surprisingly vast which will extend play time of this game for many people another hundred hours or two. The DLC adds Amiibo support, a new campground area and mini games to Animal Crossing. The campground area is packaged with the update but the Amiibo support and mini games are not made readily available to players, they are add ons to the game that have to be unlocked. Unlocking Amiibo support should have been available with the update in my opinion because unlocking it is according to Nintendo's own instruction manual subjective to what they considered sufficient play time. I'm sure over the next few days a sure fire way to unlock Amiibo support will surface but until then those who thought this feature would be easy to access will be depressed by the realization it is not. I have after two days of wondering around my village, the village of Barsoom stumbled upon a character called Wisp whom is instrumental in unlocking the Amiibo feature for Animal Crossing. Wisp allows your avatar to use one Amiibo per day, that Amiibo after being scanned can be found at the campgrounds in a unique RV styled after them. The campground spawns one new character per day where you can visit and buy unique furniture from and Wisp allows you to add through Amiibo support one more character to this very awesome campground. So far Harvey and his hippy campground is my favorite add on from the newest update to Animal Crossing. Harvvvvvv for long comes off as a very interesting NPC much like Redd, Katrina, Timmy and Tommy, Mabel, Leif, Isabella, KK Slider and many others found already strewn about the game. Harv is an example of how great Nintendo is at character crafting, which is why games like this have gamers playing years beyond its original release. There are a couple other add ons with this new Animal Crossing DLC but I have yet to unlock them, super secret storage giving you approximately double your ability to store your hard earned items and mini games, which are along the lines of the ones found in Animal Crossing Amiibo festival. I can't wait to unlock all of the new content for Animal Crossing New Leaf (Welcome Home Edition). I am glad such a great game is getting updates still after being on the market so long it gives me hope that other games will see the same treatment. If you have ever considered picking up Animal Crossing New Leaf or revisiting your once thriving village the time is perfect to do so with this very big update. Dark Souls III is a game I hadn't ever intended to buy because of how arduous many people made this game out to be. I don't mind hard games but impossible ones are not worth the money spent to acquire them because I don't end up playing them. After seeing the DLC trailer Ashes of Ariandel for Dark Souls III I decided that it might be a game worth buying and investing time into. As a birthday gift to myself I decided to pick up Dark Souls III last Friday. All I can say is that, even though it can be as hard as any game I have ever played I am glad I picked this game up. After spending twenty hours with DS3 I am convinced that it is one of the best games that were made in 2016 and should be considered a top choice for the game of the year award. The graphics, music, game play are just about the best I have played on any console to date. Sure DS3 can be unforgiving at times but it is a game that rewards you if you invest the time to learn how to play it. I recommend DS3 to any action RPG fan out there because it delivers a great action RPG experience. Xenoblade

I just finished playing a three hour session of Xenoblade Chronicles X on the Wii U and had so much fun I wanted to blog about the game. I got Xenoblade Chronicles X or XCX for short when it released in December of 2015 so I have had the title for more than ten months now and have invested 177 hours over the course of 131 logins. My playtime speaks volumes of my enjoyment and experience with the title so in my mind I am bit of an expert when it comes to this game. I am not going to say anything profound or controversial about XCX but I thought the previous information was pertinent to understanding where I am coming from when I ejaculate my happiness about this game all over the internet. I am also not paid by anyone to say what I say in my blogs so it’s all me trying to promote a great game that for some reason didn’t make it in the game of the year category for anyone in 2015, it should have won all of them.

I am playing Xenoblade Chronicles X now of days not to finish the main story because I did that back in February but rather just to spend time with the game. I know it sounds a bit weird to want to play a game just to continue to enjoy all that it offers, over the top graphics, splendid music and incredible dialogue that is at times humorous and other times dark but these are the reasons I play. I compare my affinity to this game to the affinity one might have with characters, settings or other ideas from a book or movie which causes people to rewatch or reread them over and over again, my want to escape and retain certain elements from XCX is the same. But my affair with XCX isn’t barren of new missions to complete even though the main story has long been finished no it’s full of unfinished quests. Xenoblade Chronicles X besides being stunning is also a massive game chocked full of content that can and will have players playing for many hours on end. As much as I want to complete every mission I doubt I ever will or at least not in the near future so I will always have a reason to return to XCX.

I had no real direction with this blog other than to say I can’t believe with all the time I have spent with Xenoblade Chronicles X that I still am enjoying it! I also am still in disbelief that so many people have not played this game and just like its predecessor Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii it will be only remembered and cherished by a small group of people! My hope is that XCX did well enough that it will spawn another iteration of the game sometime in the future or will be rereleased on Nintendo’s next console so that more people can play this fantastic JRPG that Monolith Soft made! This isn’t a review or even a great attempt to get people to play this game but rather the mad ravings of a fan whom just had to sit down and write something about this game, because it truly is one of the best games I have ever played on any console and deserves some recognition for its greatness. I know I’m not some big time critic or reviewer for the likes of IGN, Gamespot or Game Informer so my recognition of greatness in Xenoblade Chronicles X may fall on deaf ears or in this case blind eyes but just know Monolith Soft and Nintendo you created a remarkable game and I am glad I took the time to enjoy it and plan to do so more in the future.

October Games

I can't believe it's already October and soon it will be 2017, time certainly flys when you aren't paying attention. Okay I have been paying attention to time but it still amazes me that it is almost Halloween! Anyway, it is that time of the year when I lay out the games I am playing exclusively till the dawn of the new year. It has been a head scratcher for me on deciding what to commit to playing for the next three months because there are so many great games in my current library to play. After a month of playing various games, some old some new I have been able to nail down a few games I want to play over the next few months. I have decided that instead of the two I normally commit to for a three month period I have decided to choose four games to occupy my time. Four games to play in three months is a lot but two of them are casual games that I will play infrequently. The games I have decided to commit to for the next three months are as follows: Monster Hunter Generations, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Animal Crossing New Leaf and No Man's Sky. All the games I have selected to play till the end of the year are ones I am already playing or have played so nothing new this time around. I would like to briefly say a few words as to why I have selected the previously mentioned titles to enjoy and adventure through over the next several months. Monster Hunter Generations is a great game I have already invested 90 hours into the game since it's launch on July 15 of this year. The time spent on Generations so far is just the tip of the ice berg and has just begun to get more interesting. I enjoy the Monster Hunter game series so it's a given that I will be playing this title for a long while. In case you don't know what Monster Hunter Generations is let me elaborate a bit, it's an action RPG with real time combat where you slay monsters and I love the hell out of it! I concluded Xenoblade Chronicles X main storyline back in February after playing 160 hours but there was still a lot left to play. I had vowed to return to this massive open world JRPG as soon as I had the chance, that chance is now. If you know nothing of this game I entreat you to go out and watch game play footage of YouTube and Twitch to enlighten yourself on the mastery of this game. Xenoblade Chronicles X is the best game to ever be developed for the Nintendo Wii U and it is bound to blow your mind. It is a great game that I want to try to 100% by years end. I have just started my adventures in the No Man's Sky universe and despite what has been said about this game it is most enjoyable to me. I have invested at least 20 hours into NMS so far and want to invest more. If your curious about this game I ask that you pick it up and try it out for yourself and try to experience it with an open mind. If you enjoy games that are all about exploration of space with an bit of survival mixed in then you will love this game. I am going to see how many different worlds and how vast my knowledge of the Korvax language can get over the next few months. Finally Animal Crossing New Leaf, need I say more! The Games I'm Playing

Since my summer has been abolished for the next nine months I have been playing various games in an attempt to decided which ones I will commit to in until the new year. I like to outline the games I will be playing in the coming months to keep me from falling prey to the slick advertising that gaming developers use to get me to buy the games they make. Believe me the companies that make the ads and trailers for games are good at what they do that is why I have a stack of games yet to be played so to keep myself in check and my pocketbook fuller I pick a few games to play for a set period of time. Right now I haven't yet committed to any games so I am all over the place when it comes to gaming right now. One minute I am playing Star Trek Online the next No Man's Sky with no real goals to try to achieve or commitment to one or the other, I am just trying to feel out what I want to play for the next 3 months or so. I have narrowed my game choices down to Fallout 4, Star Trek Online, No Man's Sky, Metroid Prime, Monster Hunter Grnerations and Metroid Federation Force. By the end of September I will commit to two console games and one 3DS game until I solve one or all of them at which time I can add another into the mix. Until I Blog again, Goodbye! CMichaelP

Star Trek Online Early Impressions

As a fan of Star Trek I am particularly fond of games that come out that are Star Trek themed. When I discovered that Star Trek Online was now available on the XBoxOne and PS4 the other day while causally scrolling through various social media sites I got super excited. I downloaded Star Trek Online or STO on the XBoxOne without delay so that I could finally actively enjoy Star Trek instead of just passively via the TV or on the silver screen. Knowing the game was brought out six years ago for the PC my expectations were low as not to be disappointed if it didn't bring to life my dreams of being a Starfleet officer in the Trekian universe. With low expectations and a few hours of play time under my belt I can give my early impressions of this Star Trek themed MMO. So far STO is okay and has potential if I can master the navigation of my ship while in space. Other than some clunky controls the game is okay and I will need to play some more before I decide if I am going to waste my precious free time playing this game on a regular and possibly paid basis. Summer Has Ended

Last week the summer months officially ended for me when my two gaming buddies, my sons went back to school after a very hot summer. With my sons return to school I am forced to establish a new routine for just about everything I do because my sleep pattern is disrupted and it also means I can review the gaming goals I set for the summer break. So in this blog I will assess my summer goals and talk about what I will plan to play over the next few months. The first topic I want to talk about is why having gaming goals is necessary. All the slick advertisements for games these days that bombard you every time you pick up your phone to check tumblr, Facebook, Twitter or YouTube should make it obvious why I create gaming goals. With out a flight plan I may aimlessly wonder the wild and wonderful gaming industry by buying countless games I will never have the time to play. The advertisement companies that create the fantastic cinematic trailers for gaming giants are good and have doped me into buying several games that I haven't even popped into a console and are gathering dust waiting for the day I will play them. So to save money and to be realistic about what time I really have to play games I create goals and try desperately to stick to them, which isn't always how it goes. Speaking of the goals I created two for this summer play Fallout 4 on the XBoxOne and Monster Hunter Generations on my 3DS. Although I didn't spend as much time playing these two titles as I would have liked I pretty much spent all the time I had to these two titles. I saved a lot of money this summer by not indulging in the purchase of many new games because I keep telling my self to stick to my goals. I did purchase a few games but they were either dirt cheap or ones I will get to one day with out a doubt. So my goals were achieved this summer and money was saved so what goals will be next? I plan on playing these three titles till the end of the year without interruption or the purchase of any other games: Fallout 4, No Man's Sky and Monster Hunter Generations. Obviously two titles previously mentioned were part of my last set of goals but since I am not done with them yet I will continue playing them till the new year. The new comer is No Man's Sky which I began last week and am enjoying despite all the negativity surrounding the game. These games will be the only ones I play from now till January 1 2017 at which time I will reassess if I will keep playing them or mix in some new titles. Until I blog again, Goodbye! CMichaelP

No Man's Regret

I have recently been playing No Man's Sky, maybe not to the extent of some gamers but I have been playing it everyday for the past week and it hasn't made me regret shelling out 60 dollars for it. All the talk on the internet is about how much NMS is a ripoff with its repetitiveness and how it failed to deliver on its promises which all might be true but I still like the game. The game is relaxing to play which is why I love it. The intensity of this game is very low which is a nice change up from other games I have been playing like Monster Hunter Generations and Fallout 4. The game holds my interest by exposing me to new and often times dangerous environments to explore and survive. Will I get bored of NMS only time will tell but if I ventured to guess it won't be any time soon. I will keep you posted on my progress in No Man's Sky so please stay tuned to this blog! Finally No Man’s Sky

I bought No Man’s Sky (NMS) last Thursday but it wasn’t until today that I finally was able to slide the disk into the PS4 and boot the game up. I have been very busy over the past few days with home improvement projects, spending time with my family, getting my sons ready for the start of the school year, team soccer pictures and spending a ton of hours at work, so the time needed to sit down and play any game has been next to impossible. Today as I waited for my siding to arrive from CVS, which never came I had a bit of time to expend on what ever I wanted to so I chose to play NMS. I only played for an hour so I haven’t seen enough of the game to really decide if it was a purchase worthy of the cost but I can say I did enjoy what I did play. I was able to fix my ship, upgrade my multi-tool, some what learn the controls and do a bit of exploring/surviving in that hour of game play so I feel accomplished and satisfied from my first hands on with NMS. I ended my gameplay today with some understanding of basic concepts within the game and a thirst to play some more which I will do when I have the time.  I will with out a doubt keep everyone up to date on my NMS adventures as they happen so stay tuned to this blog if you are interested in my thoughts and opinions about this game.

The Fall of the Nibelsnarf

Last night I began a quest against a monster with an unusual name, called the Nibelsnarf, a beast so odd looking it makes the platypus look normal. The Nibelsnarf is a monster that can swim through sand like a fish does water, burrowing deep into the sand and exploding at the surface with a surprise attack which makes him a formidable foe, so I entered this hunt cautiously. Albeit taking on a Nibelsnarf in MH3U I couldn't quite remember how the creature moved so I was at a disadvantage entering into this fight. But for all my caution and preparedness the ugly duck took advantage of my greedy attacks and carted me twice over the course of the battle. In the end however I was victorious and took down the savage Nibelsnarf, huzzah. I always enjoy hunts that make me feel slightly off balance and challenge me to use my hunter know how to slay a monster and this battle certainly did just that made me work harder to achieve victory. Fights like the one I had against the Nibelsnarf last night are the reasons why I love Monster Hunter so much, it is my favorite game series. A Console Game On The Go

I am sure the rumors and discussions around Nintendo's mysterious new system code named the NX have been bogging down your newsfeed for months now so I apologize for adding to the list of blogs you have to wade through. I am not going to offer any speculation or profess to know what Nintendo is planning just state what I want from some console maker in the near future. With the NX being 6 months from launch it makes it easy for me to hope that the NX is the machine of my dreams. So what is the system I would love to own? Most middle and low class working US citizens know that they must work longer hours just to live comfortably which means less freetime to enjoy hobbies. One of my hobbies is gaming but my ability to do it at home fluctuates so dramatically that it is hard to commit to a game for very long without it being ruined by gaps in playtime caused by work and other responsibilities. I would love to spend more time playing games at home but can't instead I spend more time playing games on the go. Unlike most Americans I choose to play games on the go on my 3DS over my phone because they often time better and not in need of my precious little data. I have in the last three years invested more time on my 3DS than on any of my home consoles. I could combined the total number of hours logged into all of my home consoles for last year and it wouldn't come close to the time I have spent on my 3DS. The 3DS like a phone is more convenient and easier to carry around and game on than a home console. The point of all of this background information is to illustrate a need for a powerful handheld capable of playing home console like games on the go. The 3DS does a great job of giving me good games on the go but if I had the choice between LOZ Phantom Hourglass and LOZ Twilight Princess while on break at work I would choose the later. And this is where the hope that the NX will provide console quality on the go comes into play because of LOZ Breath of the Wild. The public had the chance to see and play LOZ BOTW at E3 on thw Wii U and were informed it would also launch on the NX. I loved what I saw of LOZ at E3 and if the NX is capable of giving me that kind of experience and it is indeed a hybrid system that I can take with me I will have my dream machine. I don't know what the NX is nor does anyone but Nintendo and a few developers so I can't say for sure it will bring my fantasy to reality of having good games on the go. I hope that the NX will deliver to all gamers a new way to play and help Nintendo regain their footing in the gaming world but more importantly I hope its a hybrid system. Little Time And A Low Battery

I have been consumed with household projects that have ruined my ability to play any games on my home consoles as of late, so I haven't too much to say but thought I should before many more weeks roll by. I am going to try to relay everything I have been doing over the last three weeks before my low battery turns my screen black and eventually shuts my phone down. As I said there isn't too much new adventures to talk about but I still have a few things I want to express here in my blog. Oh, how I miss playing Fallout 4. I haven't had the chance to play Fallout 4 at all in the last 3 weeks. In building my front porch I discovered a foundation issue that lead to lots more unexpected work and a severed electrical cord. The electrical cord that got severed near in half when I drop a metal plate on it was the one leading to the XBoxOne making it impossible to play on the system even if I have had the time. I have since replaced the cord and the projects are nearing their completion so there is a glimmer of hope that I will be able to resume my Fallout 4 adventures soon. Monster Hunter Generations is about the only game I have been playing because of previously stated issues which isn't a bad at all, in fact it's a wonderful game to be playing. I am definitely savoring my experience with Monster Hunter Generations which means I am not rushing to rank up by just beating key quests. I admit at the end of MH4U I was spending a lot of time trying to unlock hunter ranks and skipping non-essential quests something I regret and vowed not to do with this game. MH games have a long selling tail which means two months from now when I am ready to rank up there will be plenty of people still playing online to help me advance. I have racked up 40 plus hours of game play over the last three weeks and put to rest a number of quests so I am very satisfied with my progress. I am currently an HR 2 with an urgent quest waiting for me to become an HR3 but as I said I am in no rush. I will keep you updated on my progress through MHGen as it happens so stay tuned. Hot Summer Days

I can't believe how hot this summer has been after the last one was so wet. The heat has taken my enthusiasm for the outdoors away and replaced it with the love for staying inside and soaking up the AC. I am fortunate to be able to have the ability to escape the life draining rays of the sun because I know many people can not. When I am forced inside because of the heat and the danger of heat fatigue or exhaustion I have been enjoying my hobbies, in particular books and games. My summer list of books read keeps growing but the number of games I am playing stays about the same. I have read The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress, the Kastle and am reading A Canticle for Leibowitz. I am playing Monster Hunter Generations on the 3DS and Fallout 4 on the XBoxOne. I have mentioned all of these to some extent in past blogs so I want consume your time repeating myself, I instead will update my thoughts about A Canticle for Leibowitz, Fallout 4, and Minster Hunter Generations. I am enjoying the book A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter Miller JR or Canticle for short. Canticle is about life in a post nuclear world and the discovery of the past. Canticle is a sci-fi book dealing with real world concerns but confronts ideas and issues in a very light heartedly way. Canticle is also very easy to read. I am enjoying my time reading this sci-fi classic and can't wait to see what becomes of Brother Francis, the main character and the beloved Leibowitz. I will post a blog about my thoughts and feelings about A Canticle for Leibowitz when I finish reading it. Fallout 4 is amazing what else can I say about it. I am enjoying Fallout 4 more than I ever imagined I would have before sitting down to play it. I am a level 35 and and am closing in on 4 full days of game play. I come home from work and play Fallout 4 everyday for approximately 2 hours. I don't see me putting this game down anytime soon. I know this was a game I planned to play during the summer months but in reality I may still be playing this game come New Years Day, which speaks of how well I am enjoying myself. My favorite aspects of Fallout 4 are crafting, exploring and questing which all seem to be endless. Fallout 4 is a game I look forward to playing everyday and I will keep you posted on my progress as I continue to quest through the wasteland of the Commonwealth. Monster Hunter Generations came out this past Friday and it has blown me away with how much fun I am having playing it. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate was one of my favorite games of all time and I don't think I had this much fun playing it at the beginning of the game. I am also very impressed by the new arts and styles combat choices as well as the modifications made to eating and crafting. I am also finding the graphical upgrades to be impressive, not that they are significant but it's the little details that have me the most awe struck. Here is my collection of Monster Hunter games. I began with MH3U on the Wii U/3DS a few years ago and wasn't sure what the hell I was doing. I logged in enough time and subsequently had enough fun with MH3U that I knew I had to have the collectors edition of MH4U. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate was a great game, to date I have logged in 518 hours of game play and I am sure I will log some more before I abandon it completely. Since MH4U was so fantastic to me I knew without a doubt I had to have Monster Hunter Generations which came out this past Friday (July 15). With a little over 11 hours of play time already invested into MHGen I can already tell it is going to be better than MH4U.
