mine is that they meet occassionally at night and just wander through Yokohama. do they talk? do they only keep e/o company?, have a late night drink? do they spar to relieve tension? does Atsushi help Akutagawa look for clues about Gin? all are valid to me 🖤
Oh, Beast sskk post-canon headcanons– where do I even start!!!
Going off your prompt, I think they would meet by the sea, at night, a lot. It's just that Atsushi is so restless, so lost– so he tends to run away, and when you live on an island, that's where you end up when you try to run: by the sea. And he looks out to the blue sky and the black ocean, and I believe he would think about Dazai and his words about this made-up world, seemingly spreading out in front of him, all fake and beautiful.
It's not a pretty part of the docks– port city beaches are dirty and smelly, but I care about this aspect, sskk are not pretty. And they meet at night, because Atsushi can't sleep, and because the night makes everything feel a little less real and more allowed, like a dream, like when darkness envelops them, they can feel safe even if it's just pretend.
And Akutagawa finds him, because of course he does. He finds him because he's been “keeping tabs on him”– but really, everyone but Akutagawa know there's no one else he would do that for. Sometimes Akutagawa starts rambling about their day, other times they barely talk at all. Every time, Akutagawa tells Atsushi to quit smoking (because “the docks are already plenty distasteful without him offering that heinous smell”; also, because he cares, but he doesn't say that), and Atsushi is politely pissed, but he still puts off his cigarette every time. I think there's no one but Akutagawa who can help quieten that feeling of desolation; because he's the only other person who knows the truth about their world, but also simply because he's Akutagawa.
