The Opaque

In 2018 I made a comic for For The Love of Monsters anthology! The rights to publish the story just returned to me, so I’ve retooled it to print as a two-color risograph, and I’m posting the whole thing here! If all goes well I’ll have risograph zine versions of the story available by ECCC (and maybe even Vancoufur if luck is on my side).
The story is heavily inspired by books like Roadside Picnic and the Area X Trilogy, where something unknown and/or alien happens to a localized area and scientists enter the unknown to understand what has happened. It’s not stated directly in the comic, but I set it in a fictional version of Cuba, Missouri, a town about 40 miles from my hometown that was, at the time, known for being the Mean Average Population Center of the United States.
