It's been quite a while since Simen Johan has released new photographs to the world, but that should give you some idea of how much time and effort go into creating his masterpieces. Simen blends artificiality and naturalism, creating compositions intended to portray our experience of the world as a paradoxical combination of fabrication and direct observation. Merging traditional techniques with digital manipulation, he constructs complex photographic worlds that look like uncanny versions of our own. In his ongoing series “Until the Kingdom Comes” (from 2011), Simen inserts previously photographed plants and animals into landscapes stitched together from images of natural vistas - a vision of nature, seen through our desires and delusions.
