Psychosophy rambles
Two rambles and unedited messages about psychosophy, a typology system
Besides emotional expression, it's more about internal turmoil, the 3E's lack of connection to the spirit makes them insecure about their own internal turmoil of emotions, which is what results in them appearing cold/stoic often, which is similar to how 1E (aggressive emotion) asserts their turmoil, but rather than like 1E who is outwardly expressing their turmoil by turning cold, the 3E turns cold more unintentionally due to their insecurities and inability to comprehend their own inner self, in particular volition has an important affect on 3E, for example FLEV lacks a desire to connect with their inner self due to the psychological laziness enforced by 4V
A common misconception to what makes someone 1L is "headstrongness" which isn't 1L exclusive. Another reason is also a "fear of being wrong" which people generally associate with aggressive logics when 4L is generally capable of being scared too, especially with 3V. The fevl is well versed in its theatrics and performance, putting up a front of intelligence and smartness easily if that's what gets them accepted — people lack understanding to this as they view fevl solely as neurotic when it's more likely that it is performative and superficial. The 4L spews information it knows and heard of, almost as if it's regurgitating it like a school boy — someone who receives and comes to a conclusion, the 4L being like this has shallow logic and shallow points, this idea of "debate" being a major in logics in PY is a clear example of shallow and superficial perception, akin to what the 4L represents, the 3V allows it to mold itself, saying what makes seem seem intelligent and look better while not being able to actually back it up with their reasonings and concrete thinking.
Enneagram Rambles
Differentiating between sx5 & so4 with Star & Ham (@Hamoodyrody)
Pink - star
Purple - ham
The fear of invasion, makes the adaptation to a group and integration less present, moreso the sx5's strong fear of being taken over and swallowed compared to the so4 differs. They would distance themselves and the estrangement would be more present.
Even though the sx5 does not understand their degree of not accepting aid/help from the environment and why someone would even reject that (as they aren't aware of their Avarice), it's more likely they'll describe themselves as more "accepting" despite that not actually being the case, It plays into what the authors says about enneagram 5 in general being people who describe themselves as humanitarian — while the so4 (specifically) self isolates out of its lacking and inability to fulfill the standards of oneself and society. They withdraw as a coping mechanism as well.
❝E5’s tend to be private people, but this subtype, in particular, has a high need for intimacy—under the right circumstances, if he can find that one person he can really trust. And he lacks awareness of the extent to which he fears intimacy and being invaded. ❞ ~ Avarice
❝ “I always considered it taboo to be selfish and unavailable. Very often I said "yes" when I really wanted to say "no", agreeing to do things for the other that I did not want. I was unable to refuse. As a result, I felt trapped in the relationship. The only possibility was to get away and keep my distance, out of reach of their requests.” – Piero A. ❞ ~ Avarice
Therefore people confuse so4 and sx5 a lot, since due to low self esteem and high shame, the so4 believes that they don't need people and withdraws from the environment, keeping to themselves.
which ties back to how we differentiate E5 and e4, e4's rejection and unaccepting nature places places them in a position where they're a pariah, but rather than not recognizing this behaviour, they're very aware, almost as if they're rejecting closeness and keeps a distance out of shame
❝When you feel so special, you can't have an ordinary destiny. There is in the social Four an avoidance of what is considered ordinary, vulgar. Also a certain arrogance that we could understand from the polarity between it and the shame in which it moves, and that is born from that feeling different and not fitting in. Arrogance, which is born of shame and the attempt to compensate for the fear of never being accepted, leads to displaying this faulty originality as a medal that is presumed, and which in turn prevents the realization of the desire to belong to the group. , a special and distinguished group, of course: the social Four is an elitist, looking for an elite to belong to to compensate for the little value they feel they have.❞ ~ Envy
Moreover, understanding so4's lack and sx5's avarice is also important. The so4 finds it difficult to enjoy themselves, often once they reach their goals feeling as if it didn't live up to what they hoped for. This differs from avarice which is an insatiable need for knowledge. In avarice, sx5's desire for imagination and knowledge shares the commonality of insatiability, but with the sx5 it differs exponentially. For the sx5, they set an impossible standard to fulfill, an idealistic perfection which can't be reached. Many so4s confused their momentary happiness to what they reached not being enough to the sx5's disappointment when they're unable to find someone that meets their unrealistic standard. The sx5's detachment here is easily confused for so4's feelings of envy.
❝With this mechanism of demand and annihilation, the sexual E5 closes the way to a more human form of love. Since this experience was lacking in his life, he idealizes it. And this is how the opportunity to experience something more real is lost. This implicit pact where he demands perfection, with the consequent failure of the other to meet such expectations, leads the sexual E5 to the solution of lack of love. ❞ ~ Avarice
❝ The emptiness and the feeling of uselessness are fed by the constant search and comparison with new or foreign things and situations ("I have to learn", "I am never enough") instead of looking at what they have or what is, and recognizing their own worth. The external gaze replaces the internal gaze.❞ ~ Envy
❝When he achieves the goal so desired or coveted, he loses his charm, his attractiveness and his importance, despite having seemed to him the only reason for happiness❞ ~ Envy
Overall, the sx5 and so4 share a lot of similarities, but understanding the difference between avarice and envy as well as melancholy and stinge is important. Understanding their characterization plays a key role in their differentiator.
