Did u know she turned 50 yesterday

now that there r two drawings in this “series” i should explain the concept; like, right after I finished innsin i had the idea to draw all the main cast as children with their initial personae (or Joker, in Jun’s case) obscuring their vision. The idea was to try and explore what aspects of their self/life their “mask” serves to hide and what their persona is protecting them from. I didn’t go into the symbolism for Jun bc i figured it was #obvious, but i will for Maya: Her fear of abandonment, childishness and helplessness were what i wanted to capture. Most obviously how awful it must have been stuck in the shrine with nothing to do but wait and hope someone will save her, but if course her father dying was also a big deal for her (duh.) So i wanted to draw her sitting and waiting, with it being ambiguous whether someone is opening the door (to save her?) or closing it (to leave her). It also could be her having to “close off” her child self and her trauma in order to be an adult… it’s ambiguous whoah. Then Maia shielding her from the flames and the dark/night is i mean she’s her guardian angel we all know this. There’s some other stuff but interpretation is the audience’s job figure it out

Anyways i spent a bit agonizing over that color scheme because my plan was always to color each character’s with a two-color scheme that could combine their elemental color (lavender or smthn for maya) and their masked circle color. but i quickly ran into some problems with jun bc his masked circle color Is Black. Which already is in the image. So i was just like well okay we can use a blue-gray with a green color and then my second issue was that all my green markers looked like ass. And i was also worried about properly communicating that it was supposed to be Flames Fire Temple On Fire in the bg. So i pivoted to doing an orange-blue plan for all of them and added the yellow last minute which tbh i’m still not sold on.

first “page” (does that matter digitally. lol) of a four-page comic I wanna make about Innocent Sin… thinks about the masked circle gang and gets so so sad :( they were all alones :(((

well “art-analysis” -wise i wanted all of them to be obscuring their own faces somewhat (kindof cheated with Maya ahaha). And then the plan is page 2 they have someone else obscuring their faces and page 3 they are fully visible and obscuring other’s faces.

lol i'm not sure how much this came thru in the color version but i kind of had in mind that the 70% brightness gray and white would be like Jun Colors and tried to use them in eg the window blinds, the eye panel cutins, door number, final speech bubble. originally didn't use stock images for the hand grip and lip biting but i was having a difficult time drawing the lips ins a way that it was clear what they were and just went Fuck It. For the yt thumbnail image i kind of just wanted it to be like a "visual ytp"
