i have to say i find the way certain parts of six of crows/shadow and bone fandom talk about kaz and inej’s relationship incredibly… uh weird?
i’ve seen from book fans (especially on twitter) talk about how they’re going to lose it when show only fans start wanting them to kiss or touch and that is so strange to me because if these fans who have only seen the show watch it and enjoy kaz/inej’s dynamic, it means the show has done a good job with their relationship and people who only know them through the show also see their connection and want them to be together. what exactly is wrong with that? “show fans” aren’t aware nor do they have extensive knowledge of the traumas inej and kaz have gone through like book readers have so of course if they ship them in this first season their initial reaction will be wanting them to kiss/have some sort of physical intimacy. maybe give them a chance to get to know these characters and understand them before already actively gatekeeping people who have less information than you about these characters and if the show goes on for several seasons and they get those backstories and the full picture of what these characters have gone through and these “show fans” are still insensitive about it then of course feel free to call them out on it but as of now maybe chill????
i also find it strange how aggressive fans are with automatically thinking that when ANYONE even expresses any sort of interest in wanting to see kaz and inej kiss or touch suddenly it becomes about invalidating their traumas or erasing it. like, someone wanting them to eventually kiss or be physically intimate does not automatically mean they are ignoring or invalidating what these characters have gone through. obviously there have been people who have been insensitive about it and they absolutely need to be called out for it but for certain parts of fandom it seems like even just WANTING them to kiss somehow means you don’t respect their characters or their relationship. these characters in these books have expressed MULTIPLE TIMES about wanting that physical intimacy. they want to get to a point where they CAN be more physically intimate with each other. that’s canon. obviously it will take time and a lot of healing and when writing fics or talking about their relationship that needs to be taken into consideration but it’s never been about them not wanting to touch each other or have physical intimacy. that’s why the ending of crooked kingdom, them holding hands, is so beautiful because it felt like them (especially kaz) taking those first steps of healing and overcoming their traumas.
