Lawyers for House Republicans have withdrawn their legal defense of the Defense of Marriage Act, the Washington Post reported Wednesday. Citing the Supreme Court's decision to strike down the federal ban on same-sex marriage, the Bipartisan Legal Advisory Group said it would no longer press the Obama administration to enforce DOMA, withdrawing its defense in McLaughlin v. Panetta, a case regarding spousal benefits for gay members of the military.

Happy Memorial Day.

This photo breaks my heart. It resonates even louder in my heart since it's Memorial Day. Seeing this poor woman's tragedy only reminds me how important it is for this terrible war to end and to allow our Troops to have freedom of their own.
Despite being so liberal, I actually have an immense amount of respect and love for our Armed Forces. I would never even think of insulting or disrespecting a soldier in or out of uniform.
I may not agree with the war they are fighting, but I support them 100%. The sacrifices they make are incredibly selfless and brave.
I wish republicans would realize that most Liberals actually respect the troops. However, they always seem to focus on the Liberals who spit on and mock these brave men and women. It's a shame that Progressives get a bad name because of these foul actions.
Love, PolitiChris
Happy Memorial Day!
Have a safe, happy Memorial Day everyone. Please take a moment to remember the brave men and women fighting a war not their own. I give 100% of my respect to them, whether or not I agree with the war they are fighting. -PolitiChris
Jonathan Karl of ABC apparently "regrets" his error in reporting the progress of the Benghazi investigation.
An unconfirmed conservative source falsely claimed that the emails were "edited" and "scrubbed".

A bit depressing...but a necessary assessment of facts...Â
Either way: Democrat or Republican, I hope you all had a great Mother's Day!

Rachel Maddow has grown infuriated with Politifact multiple times in the past, but the rage she displayed towards her arch-nemesis on her Monday MSNBC show was truly unparalleled.
Rachel Maddow relentlessly mocked the GOP for all the conspiracy theories that some members of the Republican party continue to harp on, particularly the perceived scandal surrounding the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi.
Disgusting. I'm disappointed in CNN for partaking in the tradition of "slut-shaming" this country has grown accustomed to.
Here's an excerpt of the interview: (the YouTube video is in the article)
CUOMO:Â And therefore you resented her because she was judging you? None of that?
KNOX: No. Absolutely not. Thereâs no evidence of that.
CUOMO: Thatâs the theory. Knox is into some freaky sexual things. She tried to pull in Meredith, who was a staid, buttoned-up Brit, she wasnât into it, and it went wrongâŠThat was in the discussion of the judges, yes?
KNOX: Absolutely. I was there in the courtroom when they were calling me things like âviolent,â âwhore,â and âdeviant.â And itâs all untrue.
CUOMO: Where are they getting that from? Did you have any type of experimental activities that youâre embarrassed to talk about? That they know about?
KNOX: Well in the book I talk about all my sexual experiences, and I havenât needed to talk about the details of that because they arenât deviant. I wasnât strapping on leather and bearing a whip. Iâve never done that.
CUOMO:Â No group activities?
KNOX: Iâve never taken part in an orgy, ever.Â

Sad evidence of the harm extreme religion can incur upon a young person's life.... Tamerlan Tsarnaev had a promising future ahead of him before being brainwashed by the evils of religion.Â
WASHINGTON (AP) â In the years before the Boston Marathon bombings, Tamerlan Tsarnaev fell under the influence of a new friend, a Muslim convert who steered the religiously apathetic young man toward a strict strain of Islam, family members said.
"'Don't interrupt them,'" Khozhugov recalled the mother saying. "'They're talking about religion and good things. Misha is teaching him to be good and nice.'"
Tamerlan loved music and, a few years ago, he sent Khozhugov a song he'd composed in English and Russian. He said he was about to start music school.
Six weeks later, the two men spoke on the phone. Khozhugov asked how school was going.
"I quit," Tamerlan said.
"Why did you quit?" Khozhugov asked. "You just started."
"Music is not really supported in Islam," he replied.
"Who told you that?"
"Misha said it's not really good to create music. It's not really good to listen to music," Tamerlan said, according to Khozhugov.

Disgusting. Hopefully this situation will prompt stricter gun-control legislation surrounding identification and registration.
By Jonathan Allen (Reuters) - The two brothers suspected in the Boston Marathon bombings, who police say engaged in a gun battle with officers early Friday after a frenzied manhunt, were not licensed to own guns in the towns where they lived, authorities said on Sunday. In the confrontation with police on the streets of a Boston suburb, Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev were armed with handguns, at least one rifle and several explosive devices, authorities say. ...

Update on the status and condition of the Boston Marathon bombing suspect #2:
Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is awake and "responding sporadically in writing to questions ... about other cell members and other unexploded bombs, " law enforcement sources told ABC News on Sunday evening. Authorities had been waiting to question the 19-year-old, who is accused of helping to carry out the attack, which killed three [...]
