Thinking about SCP-8713-B/Ophelia and I firmly believe she is capable of feeling true fondness for individuals, like the researcher who foolishly believed she was capable of being an actual person. Just as she’s capable of feeling genuine irritation and frustration with a pesky patient, such as Kondraki Sr. for obvious reasons. But that doesn’t exactly translate into love
At most her love is pure romanticism and lust. Why? Because she’s incapable of viewing a ‘bigger picture’
SCP-8713-B does not have an endgame, she does not think about what she wants for the rest of her life or the greater good or anything like that-
SCP-8713-B not having an end game and greater good impacts her behaviour in a way that makes it so the Foundation can’t allow her more freedoms because she cannot, either physically mentally or morally allow decisions that seem unconscionable in the short term but are necessary in the long term.
In situations like the one where the birthing mother was abandoned so her husband could finish a testing period on a (yet unclassified) SCP, the moral decision was not the right one for the foundation. The Foundation, for the safety of its workers, needed the safety testing preformed to assess the risk of the new SCP and to them and that researcher that overruled his wife’s wants of being comforted while giving birth. But Ophelia cannot comprehend that because she cannot truly grasp the argument of ‘the greater good,’ as she saw it, that poor woman was suffering for no pressing reason but to the Foundation that woman was unfortunately suffering but it was a necessary evil. (Ultimately though, in that case, Ophelia stopped it and breached containment, kidnapped the researcher and forced him to be present for his daughters birth, but still.)
