I am currently very into a sci fi show, finally found something to make me as interested as Star Trek and I keep lurking in fan forums and I see each time someone wants to compare an event in the show with real life events or politics, they are told off.
I don't understand why can't some ppl compare real life politics to the show and then everybody to friendly debate the similarities or to debunk why it isn't the same.Sci fi is usually very political and sometimes even direct criticism towards our society. I think it is the best way to understand psychology and what is happening IRL or to adress our existential struggles in a safe space, without actual consequences. Sci fi is, can be a mental sport for us to imagine and observe ppl, societies in currently impossible situations and make up a few reactions of the endless reaction chains that could occur.
It would be a shame to watch sci fi just as a background noise, instead of a challenge to see things differently from technology to psychology and even to politics.
Even fantasy,that is easier to digest, have powerful examples of how ppl would behave in said magical or very unlikely situation.
Anyhow these shouldn't be an escape, but a deeper dive.
