“We’re adopting. A pet, not a child, God,” they answered, switching from pigs to ferrets. Pigs got big really fast. How big were ferrets? Were they even legal pets? They really needed to do some research but they wanted to adopt the stupid thing right now. They didn’t want to have to wait. “Mm, salty, like me,” they added, still focused more on their phones than on the words. They’d already switched from ferrets to guinea pigs when JC asked them to put down their phone. More than anything else, the words themselves shocked them into following the direction. He never asked them to put down their phone unless it was serious.
Of course, stupid stupid Simon’s brain had to do the panic thing when JC said he met a girl. They knew that getting married had been serious but with the whole gender thing, sometimes they worried that it was just too much for JC, that he wanted someone more normal. It was a stupid thought, and Simon knew that, but they did have it. “A girl you want to come over because you helped her with groceries?” they repeated back, just to make sure they understood. “Yeah, I mean, I guess. What’s she like? What groceries did she buy? Anything interesting?”
“What’s so wrong with a k– no, I’m not going there. We are not ready for a child“, Jesus laughed and continued cooking. “Do you have any idea of what do you want? I would be happy with a dog, or a cat, maybe a rabbit? I saw a video once about rabbits and you have to make a special house for them so they can be active”, he always gave comments but when Simon had an idea, Simon had the last word. “Salty it is, mi amor”, he nodded and laid out some ingredients, Philadelphia cheese, turkey, mushrooms, ham, cheese and tomatoes. He assembled the crepes and put them in a plate, setting them in front of Simon, grabbing one and taking a small bite.
The hair on the back of his neck rose as he heard Simon’s question. Yes, he knew Simon was too much but that didn’t mean that he didn’t want their too much-ness or that there was any doubt in his heart that marrying them had been a mistake. “She’s charming, and like I said more single friends. We could be potential matchmakers”, he didn’t really want to match Ellie with anybody else that wasn’t him and Simon, but still, it was too selfish. “well, the store has one of the best fruit I’ve seen or felt. She didn’t buy nothing too wild or crazy, uh... she’s blonde, she’s tiny and you’re taller than me so she’s tinier for you. Oh, and she has one of those smiles that just... it’s contagious”.
