The Hawk & The Rabbit | Simon
It was one of the quietest nights she’d had all week at the club. Ever since “the Reset”, people of all sorts had come wandering through the door, looking for a place to feel safe. Bunji couldn’t blame a single one of them. Even she had been more than a little scared to walk the streets at night on more than one occasion lately. There wasn’t any telling if there was someone around the corner ready for a fight and though she was more than capable of handling herself, it wasn’t something she wanted to get herself tangled up in if she didn’t have to.
But tonight seemed relatively calm compared to the rush she had in the beginning of the week. A lot of the more timid folk who had wandered in were still there, but a lot had ventured out during the daytime hours as the week had progressed and had seemingly made it home unharmed. It gave her a small bit of hope, honestly, but she still worried about them. They were safe now, but would they stay that way?
No, she told herself. She couldn’t think like that. She had to have faith. More important than that, she had to focus her attentions on those new people who came though the door looking for help. She’d put this duty on herself, so she had to give it her all. There wasn’t a point, otherwise.
She was picking through some supplies that had been donated earlier when she saw him come through the door. Intimidating as he was with his dark expression, she could tell he was human. More importantly, he was a familiar human. She’d never met him personally, but she’d heard a few tales--and had an idea of why he might have come.
She gave a few reassuring pats to the few anxious people who were eyeing the new arrival as she passed and approached the man with a smile. She didn’t reach out to him to halt his progress, but she did put herself between him and the rest of the bar proper, if only to ease some of the restlessness that had drummed up because of his sudden presence.
“Hello, there. I think you’re Mr. Blackquill, if I’m not mistaken. Rosa told me about you. Are you looking for her?”
