‘ seems like you’d be quite the asset, darcy. ’     oh, that she would be. a pretty girl serves wonders in this line of work. and she seemed naive enough to allow the wunderkind to go about his business without hindrance. an extension to the line of his mouth, lips thin and covering enamel within. a false searching of thought, a brow raised in feigned recollection; meant to humour, of course. that seemed his m.o.     ‘ it appears there’s an opening —- welcome aboard. ’     he took her hand in his again, leant inward so he might speak gently.     ‘ you’re going to like it here. my r&d is up to all sorts o’ no-good. ’

❝   wait for real?  ❞      the guy was kind of a freak but his pockets were lined with gold and what-not. as long as that gold made it safely into her pocket over time through use of a good paycheck, she was TOTALLY on board. r&d            research and development. right. she could totally get the hang of this lingo.  it’d be just like learning the difference between FDR and JFK, only way different.      darcy generously smiled, hand flexing instinctively when he finally let go. for a CEO of a mega-corperation, he looked weirdly young. not that it was a bad thing. bright smiles and attractive faces almost always stole the show.      ❝   awesome. thank you sooooo much!! i’ll be able to afford food and normal things again. i’m pretty sure they actually charge you for breathing clean air. i mean, it wouldn’t surprise me. ❞

        HE  WASN’T  ANYBODY  TO  anyone  but  steve.  to  the  rest  of  them,  he  was  a  guy  trying  to  redeem  himself,   &   at  this  rate,  this  was  an  opportunity  too  big  to  waste.  still,  her  reaction  wasn’t  expected.  being  chased  after  or  attacked  was  generally  protocol  to  meeting  bucky  barnes.     ❛    ————    i  work  with  captain  america,    ❜    he  was  reluctant  to  describe  further  without  labelling  himself  a  sidekick.  he  no  longer  played  the  role  of  the  winter  soldier,  despite  maintaining  the  skillset.  he  was  just  him. 

          redirecting  his  attention  to  the  green  marks  in  question,  bucky  scrutinizes  the  onscreen  data.  he  understood  enough  –  bar  the  star  trek  reference.   ❛    yeah,  sure.  i  guess.   –    is  closing  it  an  option ?  doesn’t  sound  like  something  that  should  be  kept  running.    ❜

❝  that’s what I said!!  ❞       darcy exclaimed, spinning around one more time in her computer chair. it swiveled a little from side to side, legs lifting to prop her knees on the arm rest.        ❝  like, rather than becoming all space-mutant, we should totally just close the thing up, right? but it’s already closed. see, there was this dimensional rift where all the planets queued. that’s apparently what caused the thingy to happen. gravity went all wonky and things got sent through. like my car keys and my intern’s shoe.  ❞     

she was talking a mile a minute, cheek rested on her hand. if you squinted, you could probably tell that she hasn’t had a decent conversation in a few days. but talking erik could get old after a while. especially when he worked around the office with no pants.       ❝  anyway, jane wants to see if there’s a way to open it again and play earth hookie. apparently it kinda works the same way as the wormhole that thor drives. since we can close it, it’s sort of like a REALLY amped up science experiment. look, we even have a journal.  ❞

          As she stabbed at the same page with the tip of her finger, Jane deigned to ask, “Wasn’t he the bully?” Then she let the rest of her fingers spring down arrhythmically; splashing black sand like paint across a canvas. “I’m surprised you even know that movie. It’s almost as old as I am.” She used the ridge of her opened book to nudge the tray closer to Darcy. “He dug it so much he left me again…for another two – going on three years. No raven. No thunder Morse code. It’s over, Darce.”

❝    bucky.... riiiiight. no offense, but your greeting skills kinda suck.   ❞       darcy moved to sit in the nearby wheelie chair, a crinkly bag of doritos apprehended soon after.         ❝   i’m her assistant. kind of. who’re you to top-secret-dealio guys?  ❞   she turned her attention to the massive desktop computer in front of her, powdered cheese-covered index finger sucked on and then clicking away at the fancy little mouse.  she brought up a few simple graphics and pie charts that she’d been told to make before, and a couple of well-done readings from Cambridge researchers as well. 

❝    ...anywho, these little green marks over here are where we caused the shift. it helped modify the plane of existence or something and sent things from one place to another. it was VERY star trek. some not-earthling radiation leaked through from the different atmospheres and cosmic rays that came through those little portals. and like, these rock things that aren’t from here. they’re pretty cool, actually. did you wanna see? you won’t melt or start grow six heads or anything.   ❞
