Hate U
Genre | Fluff - Student!au Word Count | 821 Summary | Just because I hate you doesn’t mean I don’t care.
-
Kim Namjoon.
Oh how you hated his guts.
Before he transferred schools, you were the top student. You were the one gathering all the teacher’s praises and compliments. You were the one who scored the highest on exams, each and every time. You were the smarter one.
But not anymore, not after he came.
You hated how he could take those things away from you so easily. He scored high marks without lifting up a finger to turn the page of the study guide. He easily charmed the student body, the teachers including with his natural overflowing charisma and annoyingly cute dimple.
Kim Namjoon was the one that took your title of best student, and the day you take it back, is the day he finally loses.

The bells ringing, the murmurs of the crowded hallway grew louder, friends saying their goodbyes to one another before dashing off to class. Like did everyone else, you were rushing to class too.
Slamming your locker door closed, you made a run for your foreign language class, shouting “excuse me” through the crowd.
Making out of the crowded jungle that was called the hallways, you smiled to yourself proudly when you noticed you made it out unscathed.
Letting yourself in, you took your assigned seat in the front of the room, right next to the window. Right next to Kim Namjoon.
But there’s one thing wrong. He wasn’t here.
“(Y/N),” your foreign language teacher, Ms.Kwon, called. “Take your seat dear.” She spoke, gesturing towards your empty chair. Sheepishly bowing your head slightly in apology, you finally took your seat.
Throughout the lesson, you found yourself not being able to absorb the material being taught like usual. It felt like something was wrong, as if there was a sickening feeling in your gut. Head propped on your hand, you glanced at your right, looking at your rival’s empty seat. You stared mindlessly, wondering where he could’ve been while Ms.Kwon’s voice droned on incoherently in he background.
Propping your head on your hand, you glanced at your right, looking at your rival’s empty seat. You stared mindlessly, wondering where he could’ve been while Ms.Kwon’s voice droned on incoherently in he background.
Did he skip? The Kim Namjoon, skipping? No, it seemed unrealistic. He’d cry if he missed a day’s worth of lessons, even more so than you would.
“Class dismissed.” You looked up, straightening your back, looking around and watched as people began packing up and leaving one by one.
How long did you zone out for?
Biting your lip out of nervous habit, you slowly approached Ms.Kwon’s desk in the front of the now empty room. You can’t believe what you’re going to ask.
“Ms.Kwon?” She answered with a hum, not looking up from her lesson plan for the next class. “Can I have Kim Namjoon’s address?” -
You stared down at the address neatly written on a pink post it note, comparing it to the address of the house in front of you.
Yup, you were at the right place.
Although it happened nearly two hours ago, you still couldn’t piece together why Ms.Kwon would’ve given you a student’s address. You felt a shiver down your spine recalling how Ms.Kwon had a smirk on her face, tossing a wink at you as she slid the pre written paper across her desk to you. It was as if she was waiting for you to ask her.
“Now or never.” You psyched yourself up in a whisper, exhaling deeply before knocking twice on the wooden front door. “Yes?” You were face to face with Kim Namjoon himself, peeking his head out of his house.
“Oh (Y/N),” He smiled, dimple appearing his left cheek. “What are you doing here?” Curse him and his dimple.

“Um…er…” You stuttered, fidgeting with the end of your sweater. Crap, you just came here without even coming up with an excuse. Genius.

“Why weren’t you in school today?”
Grinning, Namjoon raised an eyebrow. “Why do you want to know?” His smile grew at the look of frustration on your face. “I thought you hated me?” He thought out loud, playing innocent.
Rolling your eyes, your frown deepened. “I do hate you.” “But?”
“It doesn’t mean I don’t care about you.” You begrudging admitted what he wanted to hear, covering your face after you did so. Peeking through your fingers, you saw Namjoon’s face turn a light shade of pink. “C-can you just tell me why you weren’t at school today?”
The faster your curiosity was answered, the faster you can forget all of this.
Forcing a chuckle, he pulled the door back fully, revealing his other hand holding himself up with a crutch. You stared down at the cast around his leg. “I’m really clumsy,” Namjoon confessed shyly. “My family even calls me the ‘God of Destruction’ or something ridiculous like that.”
Standing in awkward silence after that, Namjoon’s eyes quickly found a pen. “Can you be my first signature on my cast?” He grinned, pulling you inside his home by the arm.
