Goddess of Hell & Her Love {AU}
She didn’t get it, did she? She was so smitten and drawn to him that she hadn’t taken into account how he’d feel about the situation? She kept telling him that he would love her, but right now, all he felt was heart burn. “If someone has to learn how to love someone, it’s not really love.” He told her, realizing that this was the way he’d end up spending his life, unless he found a way home. She thought that he wanted to live for forever, when really, he knew that everyone was meant to die; even her. “That’s reassuring.” It sounded slightly… Sarcastic? But maybe he meant it.
Of course they couldn’t reach down here, it was Hell! It was the place where darkness always dwelled. “The happiness?” He questioned, raising a brow. She didn’t know him well enough to know that his happiness couldn’t be brought or easily given. The one person who wanted him, was the last person he had ever expected to even know he exisited! “Steven - but you already knew that.” That little fact made him feel sick, like she had… Like she had hunted him! Stalked him.
He was like a caged animal, but this time, it was caged human, that only one was allowed to see. She wanted him, but could he truly ever accept that? She called him perfection, while knowing Regina never wanted him, made him feel like an absolute mistake. Looking up at her, he realized that she was alone too. It wasn’t just him - others could be lonely, even with thousands of minions to do their bidding. For a moment, he saw something good in her that wasn’t clear when he had first woken up in the Underworld…
But that was taken away, swept to the side, when she told him that he’d love it in Hell and he would love her, as though he had no choice. “Well then -” he cleared his throat, stepping out of her touch that seemed so much colder than the warmth around him, “As tradition holds, you aren’t allowed to see the groom until the wedding day.” he declared, stepping away from her. The way he said it may have given her hope that he’d stay and be his groom, and maybe he had no choice, but he would rather die than not try to escape just once, so that he could see his grandmother again, or see the flowers and his books again!
So, even though he had no idea where he was going, he left the chambers, trying to hold in his disgust at the sight of the demon like creatures roaming around, gawking at the living thing walking among them. He decided that he needed sleep, without Eve, though he knew his dreams would be haunted by her. He wandered for a few minutes, before settling in a room of darkness, seeking the comfort it offered.
"Steven, I-" Evangeline spoke up, watching him walk away from her. Pausing in her steps, she resisted the urge to storm after him and scream. Minions stared from the opening, waiting for the Goddess to explode like predicted. Tightening her fists, Eve punch a wall- sending flames exploding from the empact. "Does he even know who I am?" Eve hissed between her teeth. Rejection from him hurt more than anything, and him storming off like that. "Stay calm, stay calm." Eve tried to tell herself, knowing any more lashing out would just push him further away. "My Queen... He went into room-" The angry girl glared at him. "Steven is your future King and you will leave him alone." She warned.
Evangeline thought everything would go oh-so-well like in the stupid 'fairytales' she had to watch going on above her. Steven didn't believe in true love, but he was born of true love. And Eve wanted that- not to mention the danger he could be placed in. Pacing back and forth, Eve didn't know what to tell him or how to comfort him. Deciding to leave the human alone for the night, it was probably for the best. He would probably up and cry on her more if she harassed him further. Steven would come around eventually, he had to.
Returning to her chambers, Eve excitedly looked over the last bit of the wedding plans before laying down in bed. Looking up at the dark ceiling, she began to realize things that originally bothered her about hell. Hell was dreary and horrific- no human would ever want to be with her down here. But she needed him, more than she would ever admit. Rolling on her side, she blocked the dark reminder from her view. "I love him so much... I don't know what to do..." Eve said quietly to herself, feeling something wet come to her eyes before sleep engulfed her.
The next morning the Underworld was hustling and bustling for the wedding. Eve sat in her room, wedding dress already on, looking at herself in the mirror. What was wrong with her? Adding the last pin into her hair, Eve let out a sigh. When she watched human girls do it they were surrounded by their mothers, sisters, and friends. Yet here she was with neither of those things. Alone. "Today I'll marry Steven." Evangeline said with a small, as if things would go absolutely according to plan. Just as Steven said before storming out yesterday, she was not to see him until the wedding. And she could honor that silly human tradition.
"Everyone is waiting." A minion spoke up, peeking through the door crack. For once Evangeline could truthfully smile, this was the happiest day of her life thus far. Walking to the door she was to walk through, she peaked through the crack. Magic flowers had been created so they would not wilt- at least not during the time of the ceremony. All her minions took forms of humans and sat out like a crowd of proud family members. Just as humans would do it. She even made everything white like he would be used to- even her dress was white! Once the doors opened, Eve kept her truly happy smile as she presented herself to the chamber.
