an old John Singer Sargent master study I did in my sketchbook + some dark chocolate pecan cookies
Sargent has such an appreciation for the human form in all of his work, plus his pencil/charcoal sketches use such simple but intentional strokes to indicate weight and value, it’s incredible. I should do more studies to practice his technique.
today I just caught up on some class videos and notes while the storm kept everyone inside. my main to-do down below for this week:
finish the reading for this week
essentials of realism lesson 3 assignment
finish up the piece for my SYJ assignment
drawing fundamentals study + scan
watch all my feedback videos for each assignment

here’s my block-in I finished the other day, it’s not perfect but the methods I learned for measuring proportions are really helping with accuracy in my drawings. I find I forget about shape association the most and use imaginary plum lines the most probably. thank you Jonathan Hardesty lol
also featuring a red bean pastry I got in New York a while back when I was visiting my friend

finished the metamorphosis; specifically the one translated and edited by Stanley Corngold. His introduction is such a joy to read, clearly so full of love and appreciation for the work and the person who created it. By the end of the story I was tearing up, I think The Metamorphosis is somewhat of an insight on how Kafka viewed his place in the world.
side note: I spent this Sunday finishing up all my assignments for the week, except for a block-in I was supposed to do in preparation for one painting. Tomorrow will be spent getting ahead for the week and I might go thrifting if I have time :)
miles deserves better 😭 waiting on everyone to apologize to him in the third movie
