You would think that the Polish word for no sharing a spelling with Qinghe Nie’s romanization and sounding exactly the same to my ear would have eventually stopped making the signs here funny to me. You would be wrong.

#in my heart there is a revered disciple named Nie Dotyczy and he and his bicycle are celebrated on every other street corner #the German word for ‘never’ is also spelled that way but it rhymes with ‘knee’ which meant I pronounced Nie wrong in my head for awhile
