This Labor Day weekend, I was able to cross an item off my huge bucket list. I was given the opportunity to see John Williams conduct the Los Angeles Philharmonic. To me, John Williams is the greatest composer living today. From Star Wars to Jurassic Park, he’s created some of the best film music of all time.
This trip was amazing. First, this concert took place at the legendary Hollywood Bowl. I had never been to this venue but it didn’t disappoint. I mean the place is huge and the hollywood sign is on the hill behind the stage. It was magical. Second, the CSU Northridge Singers sang along with the symphony. It brought the whole concert up a level. There were two parts in particular that really needed the choir. The first song was a tribute to soldiers where the Hymn of the Fallen accompanied scenes from World War 2 film re-enactments. It was very moving. The other song was Call of Champions accompanied by scenes from previous olympic games. I cried at both songs which should prove how moving they were. Finally, the concert had THREE encores. Three! I never expected it and I was excited every time.
This was a weekend I will never forget. I wasn’t sure if I would ever be able to mark this off of my bucket list but my family made it happen. After feeling all the excitement from the concert, I realized that I should look at my bucket list more often. From now on, I’m going to promise myself to check one thing off my bucket list every year in order to give me something to look forward to. Some things will take a while like visiting the all the places on the Smithsonian Magazine’s Life List. Others will take a day like swimming with dolphins or holding a sloth. I know that as long as I keep accomplishing my goals, I will have the life I’ve always dreamed of.
I hope everyone will be able to make their own bucket list and follow through with it. With every completed event, everyone can have a live well lived.
