The gothic man shook hands with the other and greeted him with a smile. He returned back to sewing the last thread the armor needed. He was just about done, but sewing and stitching really never had a proper estimated time to be done.
āI donāt mind either, most folks usually just call me Church, though.ā
āWhen I first came out here to the Commonwealth I first lived in Diamond City and did clothing commissions. It may be the Wasteland but people still have a desire to be fashionable, and boy, do I relate to that, Iām sure you could tell that by my two day smudged eyeliner and black clothes. I guess in a lot of ways, me making clothes and fashionable armor makes me feel a bit at home. Wasteland is already grim enough as is.ā He paused to overlook the armor, to inspect it, make sure everything was threaded properly and secured.
āHow long have you been in the Railroad? Iāve been there for awhile, not a long time, but awhile. I donāt do a whole lot of recon or intel missions but I help wherever I can, and Des knew how valuable I was, and I think Deacon vouched for me. I swear that man has eyes and ears every square inch of the Commonwealth. Probably some even in the Glowing Sea.ā
Man, Church liked to talk. It was refreshing for Morgan, listening to something besides a job brief or someone complaining about how rough things were. Sure, life was hard in the Commonwealth, but Morgan couldnāt exactly imagine it being much easier anywhere else.
āChurch it is then. The eyeliner suits you, doubt I could pull that sort of thing off,ā Morgan joked, despite knowing heād wear anything if someone asked him to.
Rainbow tuxedo? Full outfit made of tinfoil? Morgan would wear it. Didnāt mean heād like it, but heād wear it. Fortunately, from what he could see of the armor Church was working on, it was neither rainbow nor tinfoil. Being as plain as Morgan believed himself to be was a perk when trying to go unnoticed.
āDeacon and Glory are the best friends Iāve had in quite some time. Deacon may be a whole load of chaos but heās clever and a hell of a lot of fun to hang around. I met him when I joined up... months ago, or something like that. I was a scavenger and somewhat of a thief. Used to steal little things that wouldnāt be missed, keep accumulating caps until I could go into places like Diamond City and be able to afford snacks or a toy for any kids there. But theyāve had me out and about almost nonstop since I joined,ā he explained, chuckling a little.
Sweets and Jangles the Moon Monkey used to make his siblings happy when they were younger. Dirt poor scavengers, he had to steal sometimes in order to give them nice things. To keep them not only safe but happy. It was a hard habit to break, but now without his siblings around... he took to gifting things to other kids around the Commonwealth who might appreciate them.

A smile widened Churchās face at the mention of Deacon and Glory. The two most infamous and the most unapologetic members of the Railroad. Church will never forget the shenanigans him and Deacon would get into. Luckily if heās with the Vault Dweller or if heās getting intel he usually stops by Churchillās shop to say hello every now and then.
āDeacon is a one of a kind. The Railroad would be nothing without him, but uh- make sure that sentence doesnāt make itās way to Desā ears. I was a lost kid when I came out here, I was sixteen, twenty now. Deacon made me want to fight for something here. Deacon has a talent for reading people like books. I think he could pick up on how lost I was, but knew I was searching for something. Not to mention Iāve always been for liberating people from anything shitty. Deacon is like, a father to me in a lot of ways. Considering mine was a walking flaming dumpster pile but anywho!ā Church snickered and waved his hand. āThatās a conversation for another time. Anyway, I uh, well, Iām from before the war, some complicated science experiment with robo-brains. So me trying to assimilate to wasteland culture has and will always be a struggle, but it is what it is. Well at least youāre a thief with a heart, huh, giving back to kids in Diamond City. Iām surprised thereās even a school house in that City. I canāt even imagine being a kid or even having kids in the Wasteland now.ā
āThief with a heart, sure. It started because I wanted to help my siblings be happy, ended up a habit. And honestly? As much as I respect Desdemona, Deacon is really the heart of the Railroad for me. Makes the Wasteland feel like home,ā Morgan noted, surprised to know Church was from before the war.
āI could have kids... if I werenāt working like this. If I thought, somehow, that it was safe and that I had someone to help me... then maybe. I wouldnāt want them to experience what my siblings and I did, I would be afraid of that, so I understand not being able to imagine it.ā
Morgan himself almost wished he could have a second chance at a childhood. Honestly, sometimes when he was with Deacon...? It felt like he could at least stop being so serious. Work was important, but wasnāt it still important to remember how to have fun? All work and no play would certainly make Morgan bored out of his mind.Ā
āI know some other pre-war folks I could introduce you to sometime, if you wanted. Iām sure they wouldnāt mind. Iām not sure how keen you are on remembering those days though, so please tell me if I touch a nerve.ā
