Pop Art Boys: Art Inspired by Pet Shop Boys

‘Neil Tennant LCQ’ 2015 acrylics on 12 x 16 gesso board. This one was fun. The person who commissioned this piece was inspired after seeing a digital piece of the same reference image by Kystko-an artist that has been featured here at the page. Originally they asked for a recreation but that’s not my way. I proposed a clean, graphic, Pop Art style based off of the original black and white reference image. I recently attended a viewing of Warhol’s Lonesome Cowboys at my city’s art museum. They also had the traveling Warhol exhibit which I took a spin around. It was very inspiring as you can see here in this image of Neil. It is very Warhol inspired. Of course because of the clean, sharpened, nature of the piece is more so resembles Neil during the MCMXLXXXIX tour. Still, it is a beautiful one of a kind piece. The owner is very happy. I enjoyed working in this style so much I think I will do some more. Turn it into a series.

‘Chris Lowe LCQ’ 2015. Acrylics on 12 x 16 gesso board. A commission piece. They asked to make it as true to life as possible. I think it is pretty successful. It’s a little fuzzy as this was taken on my camera. The photo copy I had made of it cuts off my signature so I’m using this one to keep my signature intact.

'Chris Lowe Paninaro 95' Acrylics on 18 x 24 stretch canvas. This is was commissioned by the same person right after Neil was done. He is done in the exact same palette of colours, they're just mixed slightly different. The background is white paint on black the opposite of Neil's. The circle is silver whereas the circle motiff behind Neil was blue. The Blue is represented in Chris's skin/clothes. I was inspired by the Paninaro 95 record sleeve, but this is a one of a kind, as everything from the elbows down was from a pose he struck in the video. The sunglasses are silver as an aside. This one was fun. He'll be shipping 'home' soon.

'Neil Tennant Attitude 94'  Acrylics on 18 x 24 on stretch canvas. The finished commission piece. He finally made it "home" to the UK. This was fun. I've not painting this large in years.

Been awhile again!

I haven't been lazy, well sort of lazy when it comes to updating Tumblr. Been doing a lot of art. I have two pieces to share and two will be ready for posting in a couple weeks or so.

Commissioned Neil Tennant painting 2015. Acrylics on 18 x 24 stretch canvas. This one was fun but a lot of work. My undersketch was no good, this was a true test of my skills. I think it turned out fantastic. The owner is very happy.

Neil Tennant commission update. The clothes still needed finished as well as the hands, but I'm pretty pleased with this new painting thus far. That chest hair was slow going but looks fairly accurate. The person who requested the piece is very happy so far too!

New Artist to PopartBoys!

I was terrible and didn't get on my tumblr for about a month. Going through some health things and trying to get healthy was top priority, plus just didn't have new art, I was more in writing mode. Anyway, so I had new submissions from a new artist and just posted them. I had seen them on Facebook but by so many different people I didn't know the original artist and we at PopartBoys like to have an artist's participation. Well usually I put the artist's name on the posts and I spaced it plus the link I clicked on unfortunately did not work, so hopefully the artist will get a hold of me again with more works and I'll make sure they get their name on the posts.

Neil Tennant Attitude Magazine image 18 x 24 painting on stretch canvas. This is a commission I took on a couple weeks ago. I don't usually get PSB commissions, but this was a special request and of course you know I love a good challenge. I did something different for the background to give the piece a fresh contemporary feel. This is an early stage of the piece, no where near complete. I'll update once I finish it.
