Actress - The Lord's Graffiti

New record is smashin'. Cunningham's conceptual perspective and aesthetic vision is daunting. This track is probably the most club-friendly, with amazing synths and sounds that just makes my brain spin round in endless circles of digital dust. Highlight is probably the start-stop ala fellow UK producer Rustie. Makes my heart beat.

Animal Collective - Gotham

Pretty recent, and sadly not on the new record. This track is mostly guitar-oriented, dipped in melancholic vibes instead of their often happy-go-lucky approach. Not that this track is a downer, it's definitely a great peak at what may come to be one of 2012's greatest records. We'll see. In the meantime I'll put this on repeat.

Burial - Loner

"There's something out there". Just this voice sample, and the curly vibes of Burials filtered synths makes my hair stand up. Won't go any further, as Burial fangirling is probably more annoying than fangirling over Iron Maiden records. 

Francis Harris - Pensum (Vinyl Edit)

Amazing deep house vibes. Whole record is solid stuff, but this track is just wild. Wild as in how wild a deep house track can be. I've always loved the natural link of house and jazz (The Man With the Red Face, people), and Harris pulls it off marvelously. 

Hildur Guðnadóttir - Leyfðu Ljósinu 

Think post-Gorecki classical stuff and Richard Skelton, just located in that icy icelandic aura of aesthetic bliss. Fucking great.

– The older I get, the less time I spend recording; and when i do my recording workshops I always try and encourage people to do this. I spend more time listening and if I don't like it, then I don't record it. I move the microphone. Listening for me is a creative process. Like being out here now, we hear everything, like the traffic or people talking or the air conditioning, but we rarely listen. We hear everything but we spend most of our time in a very negative way, wasting energy blotting out sounds, like those women's footsteps over there, so we can concentrate on what we're doing.

"In New York, Duchamp mounted an exhibition entitled “First Papers of Surrealism.” For the show, Duchamp and his friends strung a mile of string throughout the exhibition space, making it almost impossible to negotiate the gallery space, or to see the works on view.

Duchamp avoided the opening. Instead he arranged for a dozen or so children to show up, playing kickball and jumping rope. “Mr. Duchamp told us we could play here,” they said, which caused some consternation on the part of the show’s exhibitors and benefactors."

observasjoner fra sophus

det sitter en fyr med en stabel av kassetter (!) som jeg mistenker er av type eksperimentell støy, og headbanger stille mens han leser avisen. spørsmål:

i. hvordan kan jeg bli like hipp som deg? holder det ikke at jeg poserer med mbv-skjorte mens jeg holder morgenbladet mer som en plakat enn en avis? og ii. han har tydeligvis funnet en måte å vise at man har kredible musikkformater som er bærebart = man kan vise seg frem i det offentlig rom. endelig en løsning for dere som går en ekstra omvei innom løkka hver gang dere har vært på tiger og kjøpte funky gitarmusikk fra nigera.

okey bourdieu, jeg tar relasjonen mellom smak og maktstrukturer, kulturell kapital og sosial bakgrunn. men hva har dette å si for den estetiske erfaringen? er estetiske erfaringer forankret i en visshet om klasser, kapitaler og ens posisjonering i forhold til disse? greit med anti-autonomi, men bildet er vel mer nyansert enn så?
