do you have emfrej wedding headcanons? it's ok if you don't.

Freja out of the blue someday (after things have calmed down and they're both more stable) goes "let's get married" and Emre is ECSTATIC and stays up the entire night planning out every little detail. Freja the next morning walks in and goes "okay I made the appointment with the courthouse" and Emre very sheepishly slips the color swatches for the table cloths back into his pocket.

In all seriousness though, Freja has been daydreaming about what the wedding would look like, but she has trouble feeling like she deserves something extravagant. I do think the wedding dress is the most important part of the equation for her- looking like a "bride" is something that she's wanted since high school. She is also adamant about writing her own vows.

Meanwhile Emre is planning everything according to his interpretation of her tastes. Injecting very little of himself into any of the plans because he wants it to be her day, something to spoil her and make her feel as beautiful and worthy as he sees her. It takes a herculean effort from Emre's dad to get him to consider what he himself wants from the wedding also.

A few miscellaneous headcanons:

They end up having the wedding in Turkey because Emre's entire family line wanted to come whereas Freja has little living family left and little attachment to home.

I feel like they're the kind of couple to take dance lessons before the wedding, so their first dance is crazy awesome. Emre is twirling her like his life depends on it. Freja specifically bought the a dress that would twirl well for this reason.

Sojourn offered to officiate the wedding but Emre turned her down because 1. his parents already an officiant in mind and 2. he wanted her to be able to enjoy herself and party not as a leader, but as a friend. She becomes the best (wo)man instead.

(Sojourn does pull a few strings to make sure their wedding is legally valid across all possible international jurisdictions, including the moon somehow? because that's the kind of thing she does for those she cares about in her free time.)

As for the maid of honor, Freja doesn't really care and wasn't going to have anyone, but I think she'd extend the offer to whoever helped her subtract the murderous AI from Emre.

Which means it would be EXTREMELY funny if Sombra was the maid of honor. There's a way I have imagined this storyline playing out where Sombra and Freja end up being tentative friends. Sombra annoys the hell out of her but that's part of the charm.

Ana Amari and Jack Morrison are not invited to the wedding. Those emotions are still to raw for Emre and Freja can agree. Otherwise everyone else from new Overwatch is 100% invited and some number of them are groomsmen/bridesmaids. Tracer and Reinhardt for sure but I can't decide who else.

Emre quietly pulling Freja aside and going "Hey Frej, you shouldn't talk about Omnics that way-" but when Freja immediately gives him the cold shoulder he's so worried he's made her mad enough to leave him that he never brings it up again.

Emre from ten years ago would've given her a verbal dress-down for being so brazenly prejudiced, but now that she's his only lifeline? Well, they've both got bigger problems to worry about than a little bias, now don't they? That's what Emre tells himself.

Zarya having a showdown vs Freja, where Freja taunts, "how can you fight with your flank exposed to those bots?"

"Omnic drones killed a friend in my old squadron last week." Zarya spits. "And even I know those drones are different than the comrades I fight beside now. Get over yourself!"

Dare I say it's handled better than Zarya? No hate to Zarya but idk, it just feels more realistic for Freja to hate omnics without a big, tragic backstory explanation. It's just another thing that makes her come off as unpleasant, and I think that's neat.

I mean, tragic backstory-wise, it's implied that Omnics killed someone close to Freja during the Omnic Crisis. She would've been around six years old by the time it ended, old enough for her to vividly remember the violence. Then again, Overwatch is a universe where a solid 75% of the population has similar memories of the war.

Zarya's robot racism wasn't handled well because she was clearly positioned to be a "good guy", which backfired in Blizzard's face when fans went "umm she's racist?", and that combined with her anti-gamergate looks basically nosedived Zarya's appeal from a merch/character appeal standpoint outside of her gameplay. It was a sore spot with her character for years, not made any better by Blizzard's lack of idea of how to fix the situation.

This time, the "robot racism" arc is given to Freja, a character who's deliberately positioned to be morally gray and a regular asshole when tested. This move is genius, because then she's not a "good guy if you overlook the racism", she's an actual flawed human being where the robot racism is presented along with all her other flaws, such as the bounty hunting regardless of the buyer and her lack of emotional intelligence in general, even towards other humans.

It's a much more satisfying depiction of prejudice because it ditches the worst ick Zarya's prejudice- that there were actively Omnics destroying her home, which made her """justified""" in the narrative. Vs Freja? Her wound is old, which makes her prejudice not structurally supported by the narrative and also slightly (and I mean SLIGHTLY) more true to real-life prejudice. Freja's met lots of Omnics post-Crisis who have been just fine but she's refused to give up her bias, and that's reflective of how irrational prejudice is in real life- which is ultimately the right message to send if you're dead-set on committing to the (still ill-advised) sci-fi worldbuilding metaphor of "robot racism".
