sometimes the f in rpf stands for facts
i have absolute nothing i'm particularly willing to add to the ai in fandom discourse (i think all generative ai is bad and i do a lot of acrobatics in my life to stay away from consuming anything made with it as much as possible and i think transparency about using it is WONDERFUL and i have never used it myself because i don't want to and i DO think pushing back about it, especially if your workplace is attempting to force you into it, is both politics and praxis, but i also understand How Things Are and that they are also different for people who aren't me) because i am not that smart and i am not that interested in the conversation itself mostly because i think a lot of people are being really mean to each other in wildly unnecessary ways on both sides of the noise and everyone could use a good long break in the non-digital environment of their choosing
that said, i keep seeing it repeated that people feel a lot of pressure to perform and produce in fandom and that creates an environment ripe for ai usage and while i don't disagree, i am here solely to tell you that it is your responsibility to divorce yourself from that pressure
there are lots of bad behaviors amongst people in any given space and often in transformative fandom that means that the desire to read someone's work (awesome!) and supporting/encouraging it (incredible!) somehow converts to entitlement (bad! don't do that!) and while it is that person's responsibility to not behave like that (because it's rude! because it's UNKIND!) it is also the writer's responsibility to not internalize that pressure
i know it feels sometimes the more you write, the more friends you make or even that the attention/popularity feels really good or whatever pick your poison thing that makes you want to do more than you have the capacity for is what drives you to be here making things, but it can't be, it isn't sustainable and it makes you susceptible to making external pressures into internal agonies
you don't owe people fic, no matter how much they have complimented it or you or even if they're your friends, you have to write fic for yourself and share it because you want to, you have have HAVE to refuse to overwork and torment yourself because of what other people want and maybe that's using ai or maybe it's writing a pairing you're not that into or trying out a fandom whose source material didn't really hit, people have been doing this kind of thing to themselves since the dawn of transformative works because we like to make other people happy (a nice thing!) it is simply that the means to satisfy those internalized pressures have now become quite literally mechanized
there are lots of reasons to not do this to yourself that expand beyond fandom but the most important reason period to me is that you will stop having fun, making things will cease being a fun (and torturous ofc) process and fandom will stop feeling fun and why would you ever stick around something voluntary when you're not having fun anymore?
you have to spend so much of your life doing things you don't want to do because that's just kind of how it works, please please please don't turn your hobby space and your limited free time into another soulsucking job that makes you feel like you just need to do whatever it takes to get by, you deserve so much more than that
i agree so much about making your blorbos pathetic but i do fear that many take this to mean 'make them more traditionally feminine/submissive' which genuinely hurts my soul. make your blorbos pathetic in interesting character-oriented ways. understand their neuroses and turn the dials up to eleven. juxtapose the parts of life they handle extremely well with the parts of their lives that make them eat shit. make them angry. make them cold. make them pave their own way to hell while building walls preventing them from seeing any other way. please i'm begging you no more pathetic as an euphemism for bottoming im gonna mclose it.
Your friend’s unpublished fic idea is kind of a dead wife
sometimes there really is a single load bearing piece of information about a blogger that elucidates everything about their whole deal and recently for me it was learning that someone was from jersey. another time it was a prolonged history of concussions
microdosing on catharsis by watching a fictional character or persona i relate to have an emotional breakdown until my chest starts to ache from the amount i've repressed
Did I plan to do any art, much less a Felix, today? No, I did not. It was a rest day and I have numerous other pieces floating around my head that should have taken precedence. But I somehow pulled a messy little speedpaint out of my left sock this evening for no reason at all. It is not even completely finished because I got lazy... Ah, well. I will do the work I aspire to eventually. Enjoy. <3 Tip/Commissions/Prints
This is an anti-despair checkpoint! You must share something you're looking forward to before scrolling on.
Fanfiction is insane. You can write porn so good you make friends.
Quick question. When someone asks what age you were in a certain year do you give the age that you were before or after your birthday that year?
Do you give the younger or older of the two ages you were that year?
I give the younger (age before your birthday in a given calendar year)
I give the older (age after your birthday in a given calendar year)

Do you think if Ilya could appear to his former sad childhood self to reassure him in the dark isolated times of his childhood he would be like “It’s okay little me, one day you will have a loving family and true happiness just be brave”. I don’t.
I think he would say “it’s okay f-slur, we end up locking down a fucking underwear model who can come from sucking cock never kill yourself”.
@mercy-misrule i need u to know i’ve thought about this tag every day since
FTH 2026 Auction Calendar
Below you'll find the calendar for the tenth (!) FTH auction.
(What is FTH?)
Our list of supported organizations for 2026 is here. Over the next week, we'll be posting more in-depth profiles of each of these organizations so that creators and bidders can make thoughtful, informed decisions.
You can also look at the Auction FAQ (which has lots of useful information for people thinking about signing up as creators, as well as dedicated sections on bidding and on nonprofit orgs.) If you’re raring to go, you can also look at our bidding policies. You'll also find the dates for our 2026 Crafts Bazaar, if you're interested in creating or receiving physical fanworks.
FTH 2026 Calendar
Monday, Jan 26th: creator signups open for both the auction and the craft bazaar
Sunday, Feb 8th: creator signups close for the main auction; craft bazaar signups remain open!
Friday, Feb 27th: browsing period begins, craft bazaar opens
Tuesday, March 3rd, 8am ET: auction bidding opens; craft bazaar signups close
Saturday, March 7th, 8pm ET: auction bidding closes

We're excited to be back for another round, and we hope you are too! After all, the world needs us more than ever: our donations, our community care, and our joyful and inspiring fanworks. We need one another right now, and FTH is a great way to make that happen.
Please click the link to complete this form.
As January comes to a close, The Rec Center approaches Femslash February, which I believe we've observed every year since the start.
But despite putting out a call for F/F fic recs several weeks ago, we've received *checks notes* 3 submissions. 😵💫 C'mon, folks! Please send us your favorite F/F!!!
(Also your semi-occasional reminder that we would LOVE more F/F recs (and all recs generally) that center characters of color!)
FTH 2026 Signups Are Open!
Do you create fanart, fanfic, podfics, videos, or any other kind of digital fanwork? Do you have services you can offer your fellow creators such as betaing, typesetting, research, or sensitivity reading? Do you want to use any of this to raise money for progressive causes?
