because sometimes living in the present moment is overrated (at Gili Air)
just your neighborhood temple (at Phetchaburi)
Another day another temple (at Golden Mountain Wat Saket)
I fell off my motorbike on the way back (at Nusa Penida Island)
Yoga. The whole reason I decided to go on this trip in the first place. What was originally going to be only one week at a yoga retreat turned into 2 months of traveling aka the best two months of my entire life (at Desa Seni)
going on a little trip down memory lane..
Bali, Indonesia July 1- August 14
where it all began
Koh Phangan island, secret beach Dario (hostel owner) took our group to. Kel and I motorbiked there. The water was so warm, like bath water. We swam out to this rock and jumped off. By far one of my fav places in Thailand and the world.Ā
Thailand August 14- September 5
The best thing I could have ever done for myself.Ā
Elephants!!! One of the best life experiences I have ever had. Being in the presence of Ā these animals made me feel compassion to a whole other level. These animals are sensitive... most of them blind in the left eye because of malnutrition at a young age. Brace yourself for the sad story... elephants in Thailand used to be used for logging, that is, they would take down entire trees so the people could make would to build houses, etc. Thailand made this illegal in 1989. These same elephants were then sold into tourism where they were tortured to be submissive to humans. This still goes on today. This is why if you ever go to Thailand DO YOUR RESEARCH!!! There are straight up bad organizations that have elephant riding and bad organizations disguised as elephant sanctuaries that still abuse or have used abusive methods on their elephants. GOOD NEWS!!!! There is much more awareness about the treatment of elephants and many organizations have rescued formerly abused elephants. Ā I originally wanted to volunteer at the Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai, but all day tours were booked up months in advance. Instead, I ended up doing a day tour at Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand in Petchaburi, just 3 hours south of Bangkok. (Note, only black car Ubers go from Bangkok to Petchaburi. Price is around 2,000 baht. You can take a bus for 100 baht or arrange for transport when you book your appointment with WFFT online).Ā
Hereās a list of other ethical organizations https://www.lonelyplanet.com/thailand/travel-tips-and-articles/how-to-interact-ethically-with-elephants-in-thailand/40625c8c-8a11-5710-a052-1479d2766a78
Koh Phangan Secret Mountain. This was such a trek to get to! Kel and I lowkey felt like we were going to die riding up to this viewpoint. We took the less traveled road... I wish I meant that in a deep way but I mean this in the most literal way possible.. part of it was a dirt road or a freshly constructed narrow cement road. It was pretty much like mountain motorbiking. This was one of the best sunsets I have ever seen in my entire life.Ā
street views on the way to the night market
My first Thai thai iced tea. It was too sweet for me! Donāt get me wrong, that didnāt stop me from drinking the whole thing
