So the holidays are coming up.

I understand that these times can be hard for lesbians and just anyone in the lgbt+ community that doesn’t have a supportive family.

I just want to let you know, you’re not alone. An entire community is standing behind you, you’re family doesn’t have to be blood related, it’s the people who you love and trust most. That’s the family that matters most, the ones that you choose to let into your life.

It’s okay to not want to be with your family if they don’t support you, and you don’t have to come out either if you aren’t ready!

You aren’t alone, there are thousands of other lgbt+ people just like you in this exact situation. And they come out stronger, and find the family they truly belong in

I hope you find that family, happy holidays everyone.

butch and femme where roles traditionally used by working-class lesbians back in the 50′s and 60′s.

Butch and femme are identities, not necessarily descriptiors of lesbians, it’s in own separate lesbian subculture with its history rooted among working class lesbians

I feel very alienated in the lesbian community

For one, I’m not a perfect lil cis lesbo that perfect conforms to gender roles and has the displeasure of dealing with complicated gender dsyphoria on top of also being told I can’t be lesbian, or even gay for that matter if I’m nonbinary so what am I supposed to do?? Not have gender dsyphoria??

And I’m ace as well, I feel that sexuality isn’t a bad thing or something that shouldn’t be discussed but I feel that sex is so ingrained in people that they can’t imagine a person who isn’t interested or doesn’t require sex to be happy. I’m not welcome in the lesbian community for being ace since I’m not a real lesbian since if you don’t wanna fuck ur worthless and an uwu aceysexuwal uwu and I don’t fit in the ace community either since there’s a big lesbophobia “te.rf scare” problem where if you dare have a lesbian flag in ur icon ur a transphobe like ahsjdjdj

Anyways....being a femme lesbian doesn’t contribute to sexist stereotypes, since just being a lesbian is outside of gender norms and heteronormativity. Contrary to popular belief, the femininity straight women and gay women project are very different, and just because you like to look pretty for other women that doesn’t mean you’re bad for it.

So no, you aren’t a “wannabe straight girl”, you aren’t a “fake lesbian” because you don’t dress masculine, not that there’s anything wrong with masc lesbians, but please don’t tell femme lesbians that they don’t “look like lesbians” just because they’re girly, it’s insulting.

Same goes for trans/nonbinary lesbians who are femme, you’re gorgeous!! And ily with my whole heart! You aren’t contributing to gender norms either! You’re just living your best life, so don’t let anyone bring you down for expressing yourself.

But please know that your worth doesn’t come from your appearance, and you can define femininity anyway you want!! Please don’t let people guilt trip you or make you think femininity is a bad thing, if it makes you happy then do whatever the hell you want!

And femininity isn’t wearing makeup or pretty dresses, or fitting European beauty standards, it isn’t being thin, or able bodied, or having clear perfect skin. It’s who you are inside, as cliche as that is, its true. Don’t let misconceptions of beauty tell you that you have to look a certain way to be femme. You can be femme and not shake, have short hair, don’t wear dresses, etc, only one person can define what being femme is

girlhood is so traumatic, especially as a young lesbian. being abused for something you don’t even know is part of you yet, because other people somehow notice it before you do.

no wonder so many of us feel disconnected from womanhood, and the only connection we have with it is our lesbianism, our ability to love women as women ourselves.

this is why being a nonbinary lesbian is a thing. why she/her pronouns may feel alien, hurtful, reminding us of difficult times, even sometimes provoking dysphoria.

respect nonbinary lesbians, respect lesbians who go by they/them, he/him or other sets of pronouns, respect lesbians who deal with dysphoria. we are wonderful and strong.
