𝐋𝐀𝐑𝐊 𝐈𝐒 𝐀 𝐁𝐄𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐎𝐅 𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐘 𝐏𝐄𝐂𝐔𝐋𝐈𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐄𝐒, but she cannot boast any real skill for slight-of-hand. Telekinesis, and her unnoticeability camouflage is how it all works so well for her. Without that Lark would not be very sneaky. Lark shrugs, but grings cheekily, and for a fraction of a second, Aspen might catch a maw of sharp pointy teeth, that upon blinking would seem none other than normal.

“Just candy,” Lark says with a little laugh, the action lighting up her face. “But one more trick.” Lark stands and motions at her to turn around. If the girl indulged her, Lark would demonstrate her camouflage. Too bad it doesn’t work on Paloma or Lark would be able to stay up reading as late as she liked. “Don’t look, I’ll show you.”

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐎𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐆𝐈𝐑𝐋'𝐒 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐃𝐒 𝐁𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐀    on  a  surprise  bubble  of  laughter,  a  soft  chuckle  finished  with  a  slight  amusement,  replacing  the  previous  annoyance.  ❝  guess  you’re  not  going  to  answer  why  the  hell  you’re  out  here  alone  after  that ?   ❞  aspen  had  days  like  this  when  she  was  younger,  not  out  of  force  but  because  she  wanted  to  be  anywhere  but  home.  sitting  on  street  benches  or  on  stoops,  looking  like  a  street  rat.  but  at  the  end  of  the  day,  she  always  returned  home. 

there’s  a  slight  twinge  of  guilt  for  having  snapped.  prying  questions  never  resulted  in  a  respectable  answer,  her  defensive  nature  always  burst  forth.  ❝    look  —  i’m  sorry.  i’m  not  the  sharing  type.  i  can  help  you,  even  if  it’s  just  buying  you  another  bag  of  those  gummies.  ❞ 

𝐋𝐀𝐑𝐊 𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐒 𝐓𝐎 𝐇𝐈𝐃𝐄 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐒𝐌𝐈𝐑𝐊 when the girl laughs, but her lips quirk up at the sides just a titch nevertheless. Her face just as quickly contorts into a quizzical expression and she gives a little huff. “Came for a snack,” she says as if it is utterly obvious. Lark likes to climb the jungle gym and run and roll in the grass on the field, Paloma doesn’t mind as long as she doesn’t wander past the gas station which is another block away.

This bigger girl seems to think Lark needs help, but she doesn’t. She’s perfectly fine. “Don’t need help.” Lark shakes her head then pushes some of her hair off her face with her hand. “Did not buy.” Lark chuckles. She stole it. Very sneaky. No one noticed.

𝐋𝐀𝐑𝐊 𝐆𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐆𝐈𝐑𝐋 𝐀 𝐐𝐔𝐈𝐙𝐙𝐈𝐂𝐀𝐋 𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊 and raises an eyebrow. She looks down at herself and frowns with her whole face. Paloma has often said that Lark is prone to looking smudgy, but that’s also a product of her unnoticeability camouflage— the way she sort of fades, like she’s lost opacity. Lose sight of her and you just won’t notice her at all even if you were looking for her, your brain just doesn’t register her as important anymore. 

As a means of silent explanation Lark points at the playground, with a jungle gym and a field, visible from across the parking lot. Lark looks at the girl as if waiting for her to explain herself, but when she speaks again Lark makes a sound of disappointment. “Fine,” she says, waving her hand dismissively. “Keep your shit business.”
