If I was your personal stylist: Zodiac edition.
You groggily wake up one morning half asleep, mind muddled and unenthused with all the plans, chores and errands for the day. As you reach to silence your blaring alarm, JUMPSCARE- its ME, your Fairy Fashion Gawdmuva at the end of your bed. With two espressoâs in hand and racks of furs, clothes and perfumes, ready to dress you for the day. Yes maâam! The Fashion Godâs have seen how you sneer at yourself in the mirror, how you hide behind your clothes instead of expressing yourself through them andâŚ. My my! How unkind you are to yourself as you rip your hair in tears as you style it. So they sent me. Donât fret yet child, Iâve given the Loch Ness Monster a pedicure and that girl ainât even got no feet. Styling you, will be a piece of angel cake.
In this series I will be styling each zodiac sign according to my own personal fashion aesthetics and tastes. I will combine the different zodiac elements with my own designs. I will be breaking down what, why, fit, coat and fragrances, yep, the whole shabang! So, when you walk out that door, its not that you are ready for the day- the day is ready for YOU.
So get a coffee, martini, tea or water babes and time to enter my fashion emporium.
First up, we have: CANCER
In my own personal designs and artistry, I explore cancer themes stereotypically with its Lunar flavour. That is mainly due to the presence of water spirits and mermaids in my culture and how we associate them with the moon. So, how will I create an aesthetic with that you ask? Well, pass me a chocolatine and I will tell you:
Colours: Pastels and Taupe tones. Blues, greens, browns greys and blacks with some occasional pink and purple hues. Colors are not vivid or bright- they are muted, greyed out or muddy. Beat up, diluted, distressed or washed out fabrics. Think of seashells: brown and dusty on the outside, and grey with pink pearlescent hues on the inside.
Textures: Silk, Satin, Sheer, thin cotton fabrics and leather. Maybe even beat up or distressed denim. Cancer can both give a carefree ocean wave or an ocean storm. Paring sultry and soft silks with the edge of some punk-ass leather creates a unique visual and more room to play around with the style.
Jewelry. Pearls. We all know I was gone say that *rolls eyes*. But also vintage brooches in gold and copper, or even vintage metals. Think of lost treasure at sea. Maybe a saphire or emerald but not too much. Think people! Iâm not only tryna make you a mermaid- you are the ocean, the beach, the caves, the storms, the sharks and the sailors too! Iâm using ALL these visuals to create this look.
And lastly, fragrance: powdery, musky, smoky, leathery notes. Fragrances that are said to smell like âbookstoresâ or churches; moss, incense. Salty notes or maybe peppery notes for some edge. This combined with notes like bergamot, jasmine (duh!), roses or citrus to brighten and sweeten the notes, if you want. For you, I picked one perfume that surprised me as it differs from my usual taste and is one of my favorites: Chanel Coco Mademoiselle.
So to give you one example, I would style you in a maxi satin slip dress in cream or maybe in pastel colour, paired with a metallic corset on top or one with renaissance art on it (as seen below). Then comes thigh high black boots and an oversized lengthy fur coat. For accessories we will balance out the length with a macro Jaquemus purse, chunky vintage earrings or even the whole jewelry set (below) and weâll complete the look with a spritz of Chanel number 5.
This is only one example of many- we could also do high waisted muted flared jeans, cream coloured cropped mock neck t-shirt and a plaid grey, brown and beige blazer or even cropped leather jacket with an oversized graphic tote, and huge black sunglasses. Lots of chunky rings and earrings. Messy hair and a red lip. Doc Martens. Joe Malone fragrance too if you wanna have that broody, moody, sexy allure.
For makeup, I see you bare faced, minimal to no makeup OR bleached brows and a bold red lip. âBut what about my hairrrr?â You say? Shaved and dyed blonde or short dark curly hair. Locs, box braids or chunky braids down the floor or even a bun- messy or sleek.
Et voila! My work here is done. As you can see I am a maximalist. Contrary to what Coco Chanel said, I say- look in the mirror and add one more thing. Haha! Itâs jut my artistic signature. Now pass me the last croissant and fetch me the next zodiac sign.
Bisous!
Signed, Your Fairy Fashion Gawdmuva.
