did not grab many screenshots but was very much in awe of the camera and film direction of ep 22 of ultraman. that akio jissoji guy was damn good

this is probably my favorite shot bc i <3 reflections but the use of negative space and shadows in general was so cool this ep.

waow i dont really know much about how these things ACTUALLY worked but to me it feels like zero one is a shifting point for the aesthetics and rhythm of action scenes that make reiwa stuff look so different from mid-to-late heisei stuff (which is already insanely different from early heisei), with the big slow motions and more frequent use of impact frames and a more mobile camera work with sharp angling and stuff. feels a little more exaggerated i think? i guess they wanted to go towards a more Dynamic™ direction in the new era. which makes me feel like the way a lot of the ex-aid action scenes were made in a way that seems kinda ahead of its time? i think it definitely felt a little closer to this than to other its adjacent shows!! but of course these things change for each director since each of them have their own style etc. however all these changes do feel more present now, like they've been paying close attention to each other's works. but i havent really seen that much of reiwa rider to actually know what im talking about!!!

after making that post i locked in and actually finished zio in 2 days and while it does pick up and gets more fun in the second half it is also probably the most insecere and afraid-of-commitment show in the entire heisei era.. feels like they were so desperate for ideas they just used everything whenever they could.. i truly CANNOT count the amount of ideas and concepts that were mentioned Once as a Relevant Thing in this universe and then never again because the next Thing is even more important and will raise the nonexistent stakes a bit more. last 2 episodes actually somehow managed to assassinate tsukuyomi's character (which barely existed!!) for cheap shock value And kinda fridge her for absolutely no reason.. whatever man

why would you write a big story reveal about a character and make it so the rebooted alternate universe version of the character was the one that listened to it. what role does a rebooted universe play in this story that didnt work better with the normal one. baffling decisions
