American adults are having sex less often than they did in the late ’90s

American adults had sex less frequently in the early 2010s compared to the late 1990s, according to a new study published in Archives of Sexual Behavior. The average adult had sex about nine fewer times per year in 2010-2014 compared to 1995-1999, researchers found. The General Social Survey found sexual frequency declined among people who are married or living together, but stayed steady among single people.

I embraced this concept in my 20s (I’m in my late 40s now) when I saw an episode of “Ripley’s Believe It or Not” and they had a married couple who lived in side-by-side his and hers houses.  I loved it because I need my own space.  

Then I read the book “Microtrends” which was published in 2007.   They had a whole chapter in the International section called “LAT Couples (UK).”  I finally had a name to call the arrangement.

With no desire (or now ability given my age) to have more children, LAT is the ideal situation for me. However, I find that when I try to explain it to non-commitmentphobe men, the concept scares the heck out of them.   But it seems I was ahead of my time, maybe now......
