Ok lets talk about Sadie Sinks character....my thoughts
this is the most terrifying iteration we have seen of this character in live action
Also the most grounded...i said what I said....
Jean Grey in the original X Men movies was always a bit too high on a pedestal and I blocked the other movies from my mind. And that was ok.....we see her after Professor Xs influence....but the last stand....was just so bad that i couldnt take any of it seriously. And it was more from Wolverines pov and yes this is from Peters point of view but its a much better movie
There is not a hint of empathy until we realise who she is but up to that point she is a villain....and the rooftop scene was so cruel.
When we do get to know her - we get it....she is driven by grief and trauma and desperation but its down to Sadie Sinks performance that we now want to empathise with her slightly more.
But even then....Spider Man doesn't rescue her in the traditional sense. I loved that line when she says she doesn't need to be saved.....because she is just so powerful. And the threat is real....she could go over to that side in a second.
So the way that Peter saves her from herself essentially....by showing her a parent figure who loved no matter what powers their child had....a direct contrast to the conversation on the bench with her sister and Peter being there for her (as a friend....jeez)
And it took me until the third watch (there was alot to go through emotionally with peter and mj ok?????) before i fully appreciated the devastation of Jean understanding what V Max went. she was basically told her sister was dead...and so was the audience....but she held on until she realised that that vent was the last thing her sister saw before they killed her.
I also knew she was saving Peter but I actually just loved how they did it....the mirroring of him telling her its ok just like May did for him and how he collapsed like May (and that collapse was amazing...like properly knees buckled and just didn't seem fake....i dunno how to explain but it was noticeable).
And then her immediately breathing for him until she lets go and Punisher says, she just left.....ahhhhh it was so good.....
So yeah....by far the best written and performance of live action jean grey.....i really cannot wait to see her again.
