Sometimes, when I watch Harry Potter videos, I am seized with this almost unstoppable urge to give J.K. Rowling a hug and shake her in gratitude.

That sounds strange, I know.

I watch these videos, and it should get old, but it doesn't. The gentle humor, the mockery, the laughter, the pain and the betrayal and the horror and sorrow. She created a world and a community and characters that grew with us. She created a place for us to delve wholeheartedly and she created a world of magic that simply will never disappear. She's the brightest witch of her age, and honestly, I don't know what I would do without the lesson I learned, the friends I met, and the beautiful memories I'll have to share with my children someday.

The story of Harry Potter is one that many across the world have found themselves cherishing, becoming a global phenomenon in only a matter of a few years. In the past decade, millions of people have shown their devotion and admiration for the little boy with the lightning scar; making this the highest grossing franchise in history. But for so many of us, it’s much more than that. Harry has become our best friend, allowing us into his world and letting us watch as he grew up right before our eyes. We were there with him as he discovered his powers and responsibilities. We were there during his heartbreak and agony. We were there and fighting alongside him on that fateful day back in May of 1998.

With that being said, he’s also been there for us. He helped us during our low points, he’s guided us through the highs, and he also provided a safe haven for us if we ever felt the need to escape. I’ve never been able to look at Harry Potter as just a story, because it isn’t. I’m so thankful to Jo, and to Harry, and especially to you guys, because you’ve made my time in this fandom an incredible one and I can’t imagine a better way to have spent these past 10 or so years. So thank you again and long live Harry Potter.

I think I deserve a gold medal in Being The Most Horrible Petty Obnoxious Ravenclaw Nerd Ever.  This is the most effort I’ve put into sticking two fingers up at the movie design changes since painting my tie.

The eagle is much brighter than in the actual crest because cross-stitch cottons have this problem where they have about three shades of one colour and then massive gaps in the spectrum so that it’s really hard to balance colour and contrast :/  I’m used to drawing with much more subtle differences so it was annoying.

Now I just have to sew it over the movie emblem on my robes and we’re in business.
