QUESTION: What would some specific Eridian weapons be? I’m not talking nuke type stuff but like would their atmosphere mean no/different guns? Are knives useful in combat for them or would like their version of knuckle dusters be more practical?

I don’t believe any sentient society wouldn’t develop weapons against their own species no matter how idyllic Erid is usually portrayed as. They’ve gotta have their own version of murders and such at the least.

Have I ever done 3d beaded animals/objects before? No. Am I attempting to make a tiny 3d Rocky? Yes. Do I have correct material to string the beads onto? No. Will I go get the correct material? Probably not.

Attempt 1 was a bust, I was overly cautious and stuffed the bead holes too much before I could get all his legs on.

Attempt 2 was also a bust in that I ran out of “thread” while attempting to attach legs and what I’m using to create him is not conducive with easily adding more material.

Spent 2 hours on the combined attempts (as in total 2 hours, not total 4 hours) before giving up for now to take care of actual responsibilities. If I get a successful Rocky I will add pictures.

Essentially, if this makes sense, I did 1 bead, on top 6 beads, on top 3 beads, on top 3 beads, with a leg between each of the 6 beads (excluding one spot to act as the “front”). Legs are 5-6 beads long, still trying to figure out what length I prefer.

For those interested in the initial unfinished attempts here’s both (with the green for the little spots I plan to use once I’ve got a base one done right)

Attempt 1:

Wasn’t tall enough, looked weird to me. Hated the splat look of the legs but didn’t bother thinking on it too hard. Hated the foot enough to switch how I did that for attempt 2.

Attempt 2:

Taller, more movie Rocky shape imo. That did mean I hated the legs a lot more for sticking out. Realized after this I could just attach the legs with actual wire instead of the “thread” I’m using for the body.

Attempt 3 shall be started shortly, so stay tuned!

Edit: using wire instead of the thread was a bad bad bad idea. Sure the legs themselves are posable but at the price being floppy where they connect to his body. Back to the leg drawing board.

Ya know I just saw someone draw the red soulmate string and now I can’t help but think about the Petrova line in a universe where people can see a red string between them and their soulmate(s?). Like to certain parts of humanity it would seem like a red string of fate between Venus and the Sun, meaning what happens is meant to happen, even if humanity dies. Eva Stratt would be an even more controversial figure for trying to “cut a cosmic line of fate” or something.

To add an extra layer, imagine soulmates can be strictly platonic, so even those who never feel romantic love can have a soulmate. Now, imagine an outcast from his peers, pre-Stratt, Dr. Ryland Grace who has whispers in his former academic circles about having a red string that goes to the stars. Grace refuses to talk about it with anyone, making him even more of an outcast. Stratt doesn’t give a shit, for all she cares Grace could have a red string with Pluto. So Dr. Grace with the rumored cosmic soulmate, works with Stratt to cut a cosmic red string. I imagine Grace eventually opens up to Stratt willingly about his string, admitting it does go off into the sky most of the time. He admits it was part of his thesis on non-water based life. He talks about how it makes him feel like a freak, but he can’t help but hope they’ll one day come to Earth so he can meet. Stratt is vague in responding but she’s well aware of the implications of Grace’s string. It all the more settles her decision to send Grace to the stars when things go wrong, even as he pleads not to and that he’s scared.

Because, if his soulmate is among the stars, maybe Grace will meet him before he dies. A small part of Stratt could even muse that maybe, just maybe, Grace wouldn’t die in space.

Imagine Grace seeing Rocky’s ship for the first time and seeing his string heading straight towards it. Imagine Rocky’s ship during the chase sequence and Grace has the internal turmoil of “what if my soulmate tries to kill me?” Imagine Grace seeing Rocky for the first time and his string is connected to a little alien claw. Imagine finally getting the language barrier mostly resolved and trying to ask about the string and find out Rocky can’t see it. It’s intangible, a visual thing not able to be physically felt (outside of maybe a slight pressure on the finger it’s attached to) and Rocky has no eyes to see it. Rocky tries to ask more about it but Grace refuses to until they get significantly closer (at which point there’s the conversation of “Rocky already mated Adrian” and Grace has to explain platonic soulmates).

There’s a vague bloodymary version of this in my mind but that’s for later (or maybe never).

Stratt singing sign of the times, but specifically nodding to Grace as she says the line “Remember everything will be alright” then making direct eye contact with him (with scenes included between lines to show him paying attention) to sing “we can meet again somewhere” and looking away at “far away from here” before saying that’s enough and running off? Crazy foreshadowing. Like, so on the nose and pointed, like she knows Grace will end up on that ship against his will by her doing and that they’ll never meet again in this life, maybe in another or an afterlife.

Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but I think the scene in the movie where Grace asks who’s going to be the new scientist and the scene where he tells Stratt no he won’t do it are interesting. Specifically, Grace’s jacket. Yao and Ilyukhina are seen almost exclusively in their yellow PHM jump suits throughout the movie. Grace enters that “where are we gonna find another scientist” moment with his yellow jacket behind him, and when he tells Stratt he won’t he’s wearing it, like he’s going to end up in that yellow jumpsuit on that spaceship no matter what.

But I’m probably just reading into it too much. I can’t even tell if that explanation makes sense lmao.

I just saw a hobbit video that had an art image of Bilbo touching Thorin’s hand during the funeral scene and as someone who has done that at a funeral, it hurts.

Like you think of all the times you’ve been close to that person, their warmth, their skin, their movement and it’s all just… Gone. Their hand is cold, waxy, and unfamiliar in a way you never expected from the last time you’d touch them. It’s a final stake to the heart saying you’ll never see them again.

I know I’m not the only one to experience the death of a loved one, but to see an experience that still haunts me to this day reflected in a piece of media I’m invested in hit me in a way I didn’t expect. If I had the will to write a story about something so painfully close to my own experience, I would, but it’s a line I can’t seem to will myself to cross.

After all, death hurts more than just the dead.

I gotta get this off my chest as a na’vi fan clan and general avatar OCs enjoyer. This is all personal opinion and if you disagree that’s okay. I will start everything with “I think” BECAUSE it is my thoughts and opinions since this is fantasy.

I think if you’re making an avatar OC that isn’t human you shouldn’t be giving them any hair but black or dark brown unless they’re meant to be leucistic/albinistic/have vitiligo OR unless they have their version of “bleached”/dyed hair. Light hair like blond or red is a mutation in humans (one specifically coming from Europe at that) and since we operate on melanin and na’vi operate on cyanin their hair mutations would likely not include blond or red in the same manner. If there is a mutation, it likely will be to one clan alone and likely not the entirety of the clan.

I think if you’re creating a whole clan, you have to keep in mind the UV impact. I can let snowy and alpine avatar skin get away with being lighter if they’re mostly covered up cause of the cold, they wouldn’t tan much that way, BUT their eyes wouldn’t be able to be something less pigmented. Less pigment means a harder time seeing in the light, and you’re telling me that the little to no pigment is fighting snow blindness? Granted, if we don’t exactly know what “less pigment” is in the eyes (I personally think it’s red and white/silver), then that’s okay, but don’t SPECIFY less eye pigment.

I think if you’re creating a cave clan, think of animals and plants that live there. Color is unneeded in darkness and usually doesn’t happen, unless there’s another source of UV/radiation like the Chernobyl mushroom that’s black cause of the radiation. If they’re not full time cave dwellers or if they have a ton of bioluminescent plants it might stop them from being translucent but they’re not gonna have as much pigment. I’d LOVE to see a clan of translucent cave na’vi honestly, bring a whole new meaning to “I see you.”

I think there’s weird colorism that goes into a lot of the bright white OCs, like people want them perceived not as indigenous or black like the movies are based off of but instead more euro-centric with that “the whiter the better” sentiment. Granted NOT ALL of the white avatar OCs are that, playing with albinism, leucism, and vitiligo can be fun on characters and if you only feel like creating one character and that’s it so be it, character creation can be hard! But I sideeye those bright white AI avatar pics I stumble across.

Anyway keep creating OCs, using the science of the world to explain adaptations, using the lore of the world to create your own clan’s lore, keep being creative! In the end, this is my own gripes that can do nothing to stop you from creating what you want, I just implore you to think things through logically.

Current thought: Sampo as a part of Aha themselves that Aha wanted to go and experience more fun/elation/whatever firsthand. Sampo has no idea but the other Masked Fools know or assume he’s an Emanator.

Of course he joined the Masked Fools when he knew nothing of his origin because he’s naturally drawn to that path. Sparkle tells him the truth once and he thinks she’s messing with him.

Y’all I’m rewatching one of the two TFP episodes where soundwave is not surrounded by the dark ass nemesis (S2E14) and I just paused the vid to get a closer look at his head and

Dog is basically wearing a bike helmet istg why are you so funnily shaped you single father of one

His back spikes being visible at that torso angle is also really funny to me but so is the fact that he HAS back spikes which means his ass is never laying on his back comfortably.

Soundwave in Transformers Prime is objectively one of the funniest depictions of him because he simply chooses to mind his business unless it’ll impact him. Mr. Casual Walk™️ does exactly what Megatron asks and prevents serious treachery against Megatron (while also being a little tattle tale lmao) and calls it a day. Megatron did not order him to do something and it won’t potentially kill or depose Megatron? Not his problem.

Also with the whole tattletale thing I’m just imagining a hot pink girls sleepover with Megatron and Soundwave on their stomachs kicking their feet in the air as Megatron watches Soundwave’s face like a TV.

Honestly, the biggest sign that it was Sparkle and not Sampo on the mission with Firefly was the fact that he didn’t use his last name when speaking about himself. Near anytime that man says his name it’s “Sampo Koski” and you’re trying to tell me that he just decided to stop? For an introduction to another character? Yeah, the vocal tone was slightly off for Sampo and yeah he appeared on Penacony out of the blue, but the lack of his surname had so many alarm bells in my head. Immediate suspicion.

This isn’t to say sampo never uses just his first name, but it’s significantly rarer and even the mission Masquerade Duet had me more convinced than Sparkle as Sampo, though I was suspicious of Masquerade Duet Sampo because of the Sparkle as Sampo reveal in the Firefly main mission.

Anyways Roger Rose’s voice acting for Sampo has me immediately turning my game sound on to hear him anytime he appears. He did such a good job acting as someone acting as Sampo, I could make a whole appreciation post about that man putting his whole Sampussy into that role.
