cool drink of water, such a sweet surprise.

Puck was quiet as he listened to the other man talking about what life was like in Kansas and why he decided to leave and come to New York instead. He glanced over at Angel and then down to his coffee, feeling a bit uneasy as the man gave him so much information. He didnât mind, but it definitely caught him off guard considering he really didnât know much about him at all prior to tonight, other than what he did for work and that he was a student. He wasnât entirely sure how to respond to all of it, taking a second to process it all before Angel started to apologize for saying so much at once.
âDonât be sorry. Itâs seriously fine,â he told him, looking up at him again. âI donât blame you for leaving. Iâd wanna get out of a place like that too. I hope New York has been better for you.â He shrugged lightly, wondering if the dreams Angel had of New York ended up coming true, or if they ever would. He genuinely hoped that they would.
When asked why he left Philadelphia, the answer came to him immediately, but he waited a moment before responding. âTo get away from my dad,â he explained and just shook his head. âBut I guess I didnât go far enough. I should have moved to California or something instead.â Realistically Puck knew that he couldnât actually leave his dad completely unless he wanted to be totally cut off from his money, but sometimes he wished heâd never known what it was like to have so much wealth at his disposal. It would probably be a lot easier.
âI canât actually get away from my dad. I mean with the company and everything.. itâs my destiny I guess. He still lives in Philly but heâs here a lot now. Basically every structure built here in the last 8 years has been from us.â Puck ran his thumb along the edge of his paper placemat, rolling his eyes when he spotted a Puckerman Construction advertisement on it. He just ripped around the square shape of the ad and pulled it off, folding it in half and setting his coffee mug on top of it.
âIâm grateful for the opportunities Iâve had and everything. Iâm lucky and everything. Iâve never had to worry about paying for anything and Iâve never had to live uncomfortably.â He always felt guilty for complaining about it, but he couldnât help it. âBut sometimes I just wish I could be someone else. Anyone else. Anywhere else.â He looked down at the table and then over at Angel again, a little surprised that heâd said so much, but he didnât have anyone to talk to about this kind of thing.
âIt has,â Kurt said simply. He laughed quietly as he thought about how it looked to Noah, though. Like he was some poor farm boy with big dreams that had to resort to getting tips on a pole. Yeah, there was some truth to that, but Kurt had also always known heâd need to save money and budget and work hard. Kurt was a bit starry eyed, but he wasnât some naive farm boy, either. âIt probably doesnât seem that way to you, but it has.â
Kurt watched Noah curiously as he explained himself. Really, all Kurt knew about Noah was that he was an heir to a huge company, hence his ridiculously generous tips, and that his dad wouldnât accept his sexuality. Or at least Noah believed that. That was something Kurt couldnât relate to at all; his dad was always so supportive of him, more so than Kurt could ever dream. It was kind of crazy how supportive he was, truly, since no one would expect that from a good olâ boy like Burt Hummel.Â
He also couldnât imagine having the money and luxury Noah had. It was such a foreign concept to him nowadays. Growing up he was always fed well and probably had more spending money than the average teenager should have, but living in Kansas versus living in New York was a very different thing. Even Puckerman Construction wouldnât be able to afford all the land the Hummels had back in Kansas just from property demand.Â
Kurt stayed silent for a while, since he really wasnât sure what he should say back. Finally, he said, âIâm sorry. It must suck having a family you donât get along with very well.â He bit his lip, since he was pretty sure telling Noah that he had a great family relationship wouldnât help.Â
âIâm glad you recognize youâre lucky, at least. You said earlier how you wish you could give me more than you do, but...I donât know how you could. Iâm not kidding when I say, you know, Iâve finally been able to turn my heat up as high as I want this winter. Iâve paid back extra money on my student loans. Like, it might be enough to not have any by the time I graduate,â Kurt said. He laughed in shock at that though and ran a hand through his hair. âIâm still amazed at that. Seeing as I have no idea if Iâll be able to get a job in my field, especially not my dream job, itâs nice to know that I at least wonât have loans to worry about forever.â
Kurt stopped as the waitress came over with their food. Kurtâs stomach growled at the sight of his food, but it was especially longing for Noahâs hash browns. âThis looks delicious, thank you,â Kurt told their waitress before they left. He poured some syrup onto the side of his plate and then pushed the bottle over to Noah. âDonât let me put anymore on this,â Kurt told him sternly before taking a small piece, dipping it in the syrup, and eating it with a soft moan. âThis was so needed; thank you for inviting me out.â
