"Joy," she replied, giving him a bit of an awkward bow in return. "So.. To start off, do you have any questions?" Wow this was a bit awkward. Ronan may have changed her view on things but he certainly didn’t help her out with her social skills. It felt like this would always be awkward. Greaat..

"I've heard worse." The medium sighed and shook her head. She knows Ronan is in a better place, why bring him back here? It doesn't matter that she missed him.. Joy cleared her throat before speaking. "Never mind. I can.. Help you get used to the whole 'being-a-ghost' thing, I guess. Just don't go around and tell others that I helped you. I don't need anymore trouble." She still didn't trust him, but she figured she'd at least try.

{Ok go with the whole face bein sliced off. Perfect.}

Yeahhh wasn’t a great shooter so they sliced it off and left me to bleed. Since I scare the kiddies when they’re trying to contact me, (seriously super annoying repeating the same question) I picked up masks to wear.

{He then tried taking off his mask which only could come off a little but not much.}

Can’t even take it off unless I get another mask.

"I'm sorry.. That must have been horrible." He obviously wasn't a good guy, but she still couldn't help but feel a bit bad for him. What a way to go. "Hey.. You haven't seen a guy around named Ronan, have you? Wears a hat, looks like some sort of wannabe cowboy.. Says he's a detective?"

{Ok maybe he should take it down a notch. Of course no one would believe a mask wearing weirdo even though all of what he said was true. Maybe another story might make it. He went over and tapped her shoulder as he normally would.}

Ok ok maybe we fot off on the wrong foot. And…ugh, yes I guess I’m a terrible lier. What do yiu wanna hear? I was into some deep shit and the gang I was with sliced my face off?

As her shoulder began to tingle she turned around to see that he had just tried to tap it. Joy raised her eyebrows, then looked down as he began to sign once again. "..Well, that does sound a little more believable," she mumbled a bit quietly. "Sorry to hear about that.."

That wasn't a type of response she was expecting. Usually people ask her what kind of name Joy was. Out of the two of them it looked like Aiko should be named Joy. It fits her better. "I'm from a small town called Salem. Kind of dark and depressing.. Ever heard of it?"

Never mind, he's exactly like most ghosts are. That settles it, he's insane. "Yeah, sure. You making sure you're not the only one that does that or something?" Joy replied in an annoyed tone. "Because you are. Unlike you I have better things to do. Like, I don't know.. live?" It's a surprise someone like him hasn't been taken down by the demons yet. "Plus, time can fly by when you're a ghost.. Now go do whatever it is you ghosts do and disappear."

"Aiko, huh?" She leaned to her right, tilting her head up at the blonde. She must not be from the same place. Aiko's way too bright for the dreary town of Salem "..Joy. My name is Joy."

{Like the others? What were the others like? the other dead people or those nasty red ghosts? He tilted his head and rubbed his chin. Well, if she could see and hear him, it be nice to let out some stress.}

I’m not even gonna ask how you know sign language but here we go. Its a bit broken but I was into some heavy gang stuff and being the cocky bastard I am I grabbed something I shuoldn’t have.

It was…really great to have some kind of power to control the people you hate. I nearly owned a town if it weren’t for some…14 year old kid..

There was fire…lots of it. My face hurt like hell from…A laser blast? Then I could see my charred body being carted away, celebrations for the kid and his stupid team and well…I wandered. For a long time..

And me being mute wasn’t the result of my death. I was born mute.

{God his hand hurt from all the signing. He really needs to grab a pen and paper. And this was only a month ago jesus and he wasn’t used to people going through him and such.}

O.. Kay. Maybe asking this ghost what his story is was a bad idea. The teenage medium stood still and blinked at him. A past like that definitely was going to keep him here for a long time. For all she knows he could just be making that up to in order to get something from her. But ever since she met Ronan she couldn't help but become a little bit more trusting towards these ghosts.. A little bit. "That's quite a story. Where'd you get from? Some children's movie?" She asked, crossing her arms over her chest. "Look, if you're trying to get help to go to the other side then you can look somewhere else."

“It's time for me to go.”

Joy swallowed and glanced down, finding it difficult to look her friend in the eyes. She stayed silent for a few seconds before asking him in a rather quiet voice, “Where are you going?”

She scoffed at his sarcasm. “Is that supposed to make me feel better?” Joy placed a hand on her hip while she looked up at him. He looked nervous and really hesitant. She’d known him for how long? Yet, she knew she was going to miss his presence. At least he was going to be with his wife, right? Joy blinked down at his extended hand. This reminded her of when they introduced themselves. Great, there was a lump in her throat now. Did she look upset? It’d be better to send him off with a smile or something but.. She wasn’t good with goodbyes. Nonetheless, she reached out her hand and watched as it went through his. Then, she dropped it back to her side, feeling like an idiot. "I know.. I’ve seen how people can get when you stay too long, remember? Just.. Okay, look. I just wanna say.. Thanks. For all that you did back there. Without you.. I wouldn’t have been able to find my mom. You really.. Helped me out." She stopped, letting out a sigh. If only she could find the right words. Just thinking about this possibly being the last time they’ll see each other made her forget how to properly speak.

There was a slight tingle as her hand passed through his, but nothing more. Ronan curled his fingers, as if he was linking their hands, but pulled back hastily after she had. The gesture would have been awkward even if her hand hadn’t passed through his. It was entirely wrong for the situation, and Ronan was relieved when she began to speak again. She might not have noticed how awkward he was making this.

And of course she knew about what it was like for the people stuck here. She had seen them and interacted with them for much longer than Ronan had. He just felt like he needed to point it out. Make sure she didn’t think he wanted to leave like this.

Ronan shifted his weight, unable to look at her as she thanked him. On one hand, he couldn’t believe that he could let her speak like that without saying something of his own. …on the other, he was immensely relieved that she had taken it upon herself to say what needed to be said. He wasn’t sure he could bear an awkward silence. Not now.

"I know, Joy. …thank you. I couldn’t have stopped her without you. She’d still be out there, untraceable as she moved from victim to victim. You saved those other girls she would have gone after. …you saved me-” He gave a small laugh, nearly devoid of humor. “We, uh, wouldn’t be talking like this if you hadn’t helped me. I wouldn’t be able to leave.”

Joy looked up at him and gave him the best smile she could muster up at the moment. Which wasn't really much of a smile. Her lips trembled slightly as she tried to control her emotions. Pretty soon the cops would be here to take her to the station where her mom might be waiting. The thought made her feel a bit better, getting to see her mom again, but she was still sad Ronan had to go. "Yeah.. We make a pretty good team, huh?" She asked, sounding as if her throat were very dry. They really did make a good team. It was a short lived partnership, though. But a great one. She blinked quite a bit as she tried to keep herself from tearing up. It was so hard to look at him right now. Just.. Unbelievable that this was the last time she would talk to him or even look at him. Who knows where he would end up? Or even Joy for the matter? Maybe they'd see each other again. One can only hope. Letting out another sigh, she moved her hands a bit as she continued to talk. "So.. This is goodbye." It wasn't a question, it was a statement. A rather painful one, at that. What do you say after that? She already thanked him, but it felt like that wasn't good enough.

"You have no power over me."

Ronan ground his teeth together, rolling his eyes with exasperation. Jeeze- could this kid get any more difficult? “Yes, you made that perfectly clear the last twenty times you’ve huffed at me. Look, I’m not trying t’ control you, ok? I’m just making a suggestion, because I actually want t’ solve this case. I know you’re a ‘big tough adult who doesn’t need my help’, but, as I’ve said before, we’ll find your mom and stop this guy a lot faster if we work together. So if you can calm down for one minute, maybe we’ll actually find something in your mom’s book.”

Ungh. If Ronan didn’t need her, he would have left this huffy kid hours ago.

Joy sighed and turned her back to him. She looked down at her mother’s book in her hands with a sullen expression. Why can’t she do this on her own without some detective’s help? She thought she was more than capable of.. Ugh. "Alright, fine." She said a bit reluctantly. She then turned around and opened the book, flipping through a few pages before landing on one that seemed important. "It’s about her last case.. At Ashland Hills Cemetery. ‘They can’t see it, but it’s there’."

Ronan moved closer to her to see the book. She had grudgingly agreed to get back to working together, but the specter wasn’t entirely satisfied. He had thought they’d be able to work together toward a common goal, but the girl was getting to be a real pain. …Hopefully they’d find her mom quickly, and Joy would be a bit less of a jerk.

'They can't see it, but it's there'? “What's that supposed to mean?” Ronan knew the value of being cryptic when speaking about cases, but Cassandra's odd symbols and riddle-like way of writing was doing more harm than good. “We should go check it out. See if we ca dig anything up.”

"She must have thought there was a case there that's linked to the Bell Killer," Joy replied with a shrug. She closed the book and looked off to the side, letting out a scoff. What did he mean, 'we'? She wasn't going to say that aloud but she made sure that he knew she was certainly thinking it. Nonetheless, Joy tilted her head back and looked at him. "Fine." She'd work along side him for now, but afterwards he'd have to find his own clues. By himself. Honestly, she was sort of glad he was tagging along. Rather have someone with her than be alone in that place, surrounded by ghosts. He was a ghost too, but at least she knew him. Well, kind of.

Ronan stared at the door in front of him, uncomprehending. It was not a door he recognized, and he could not for the life of him fathom why he would be standing before it. He adjusted his gloves, then saw, more then felt, himself force the door open. He vaguely remembered himself climbing the...

After not hearing from her mother for some time Joy decided that she should take matters into her own hands. She feared that something terrible might have happened to her mom. Since her mom had been helping the cops work on the Bell Killer case she had become a possible target of his. Joy had to find her, she just had to. She was in the midst of packing up her clothes when she stumbled upon the picture of her and her mom. The girl picked up the frame and stared at it with a sullen smile on her face. What she wouldn't give to be next to her mom right now. A clicking sound caused Joy to jolt her head up. She knew that sound. It was the sound of the door unlocking. But who was unlocking it? For some reason she knew it wasn't her mom. Quickly, she hid behind the wall of the next room and tried her best to keep quiet. The sound of heavy footsteps only confirmed that it wasn't Cassandra. That can only mean one thing. Oh God, what should she do? If she gets caught then she's dead meat! Joy's thoughts were racing for the answer of her escape. The door definitely was not an option. Her only other choice was the window. She could climb down the fire escape and make her way to the church. There she could meet up with Father Mccauley, one of the few people she actually trusted. Okay, that problem was solved. But how would she get out of here without getting caught? She looked around the room for anything that could help. Her eyes landed on one of her mom's books. Carefully, she reached for it and chucked it into the other room, hoping the intruder would go and investigate the noise. Her planned work, for she heard him begin to walk toward the room she threw the book into. Making sure that she stayed quiet, she ran over to the window and opened it, then climbed out and onto the fire escape. She closed the window just to cover up any signs of her escape and made her way to the church, holding the picture of her and her mom close to her body as she ran.
