So, a lil over a month ago, I got nostalgic over this old PPG fangame I used to watch playthroughs of back in the day.

Powerpuff Z 3.

It’s basically a fighting game where you fly around & use Dragonball-esque energy ball attacks to take out your opponents. The game was so charming with a cute lil story (& some edgy ocs, very delicious) & your own character & battle customizer! It was so cool!

& I distinctly remember adoring the designs for the dark clones of the PPG. I thought they were so cool…

So I drew them!

I gave em ponchos instead of the usual dresses cause I thought they’d look cool on em.

Now, fast forward a while later, & I learn that these designs were originally used in a fanfiction (titled “Altered Destiny,” if you wanna go read it) by Parsec Productions, a co creator of PPZ3 & the GUY WHO MADE SLENDER: THE EIGHT PAGES????

WHAT????

I got INCREDIBLY curious & looked through some of his work. I eventually stumbled upon his first take at dark counterparts to the PPG: The Anti-Puff Girls (this was also what the fanfic itself was called). They were apparently made by Mojo using the same ingredients as the girls with the exception of Mojo using antidote X instead of chemical X, which inspired me to have a go at freshening up these designs.

I thought it would be neat to give the girls here a similar look to how the PPG did when they were having their chemical X drained in the episode “Knock it Off,” specifically with the greenish spots on their arms & their faded eyes.

Honestly, I’ve just been ITCHING to draw & sometimes redesign PPG teams, both official & popular fanmade ones. That’s kinda what I get for binging so many 2012 speedpaints, I guess.

Also, while I used PPZ3’s character models & icons as references for the Dark PPG, their original designs & the Anti-Puff’s designs can be found here!

PPG X TMNT PART 4!!!! FINALLY THE LAST ONEEEE!!!! my two favorites in one, raph and buttercup, flexing their strength, being the menaces they are KAJSDKAJSDKJAKDJA saving the best for last, i think this drawing is my favorite of the four (what a shocker i know), both because of the characters and because of the colors, read an green goes so well together, and the background reminds me of a watermelon KASKDJAKSJAKJD

i was incredibly devestated to find out that kane passed away yesterday. he was an incredible VA who was passionate and devoted to his craft, and was a memorable part of my childhood.

what's crazy for me is that i just started to rewatch the powerpuff girls maybe a week or so ago. honestly, i think it stemmed from me wanting to take a break from personal passion projects and the burden of my academics. i thought, what better way to do that than to watch an old childhood show?

the way i stumbled across ppg in the first place is actually kind of amusing. my mom used to get her braids done at this lady's apartment, and her son ABSOLUTELY ADORED the powerpuff girls. i thought it was a bit odd at first because i didn't really know anything about it at the time, so i was wondering why this boy was watching a random girls' show. i was SO SO WRONG. he put me on and i'm incredibly grateful that he did.

anyways, after that, it just kind of stuck with me. i didn't grow up with cable, so i may not have had the authentic experience of sitting in front of the tv with some lucky charms and watching the show, but i like the unconventional way i stumbled across it.

i ended up watching the reboot on a cruise a few years later when i was HORRENDOUSLY seasick

now, i've come back to it! i'm glad that i did, but kane's passing saddened me deeply. he was not only the soul behind the professor and him in ppg; he also sparked life into so many other characters across various expanses of media. i may not be one, but VA's geniunely inspire me, with their levels of range and passion, to create art for the mere fun of it. kane's 50 years of contribution to the artistic community will always be cherished and remembered 💛

I felt the need to pay tribute to the late Tom Kane. He was a phenomenal voice actor and has a LONG legacy of characters and sounds we all grew up hearing.

The Powerpuff Girls was my first fan hyperfixation. I was about 6 and making a whole bunch of fanart, fan comics, I even had a self-insert OC. Most of that art is long lost, but this show holds a special place in my heart.

I loved Professor Utonium. He was so incredibly patient and tender to those girls, despite the struggles of raising superpowers triplets as a single dad.

We love you, Professor 💙💗💚
