A master study done of my character Hector, the Frenchie! This was difficult and I learned a lot about colour from this. =) I’m quite happy with it.

Dermot Crowley: Part 1

It had been a month since Dermot Crowley’s mother had passed away, and with his father dead from war, he was now orphaned and alone. Luckily for him, his poor mother was related to the wife of the proud Richard Hunter, living on the largest estate in the county of Devonshire in England. The man took on the young child as one of his own, educating him and giving him everything he needed to become a man.

“Sir, there is something odd about that boy.” Hunter’s head butler announced as the two men stood at the window, watching young Dermot prance around in the pens with the pheasants. The birds were destined to be released for the upcoming hunt, they were nothing but game birds.

“Perhaps, it seems like he prefers the company of the feathered folk” Hunter chuckled, lifting his tiny cup of tea to his lips, taking a gentle sip. He didn’t think much of it, after all the child was still mourning the loss of his mother and would soon grow out of the strange behavior.

Nicholas Brimble was the son of a potato farmer in England, unfortunately his father did not own the land so majority of the profits went to the land owner, the Hunter family. The two boys quickly became friends, even though Nicholas had to work in the fields day and night with his brothers and father.

As teens, they kept a close bond, even though their worlds were two very different places. Richard Hunter lived the high life while Nicholas struggled and worked hard to earn a living. He never resented Hunter and enjoyed bunking off work to go horse racing around the estate. If it wasn’t for that, he would never of known how to ride a horse in the first place.

This is Captain Dermot Crowley, a well known pirate that patrols the sea’s. He sometimes aids the Americans in bringing weapons, food and uniform supplies for a good price. He is also a naturalist and ornithologist, he loves to draw, research and write about birds. He has a few bird members aboard his ship. A crow, a Raven, two magpies, a pheasant and some chickens. All his birds were rescued that were either injured or were raised from falling from their nests.
