2. The brand
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
IT’S HAPPENING!!!
Berserk getting new anime in 2016 (official website)
this will either be really good or really bad
are there any actual berserk fans who enjoyed the movie adaptations?
I wish they’d kept some character things, but overall I loved the movies.
i agree! i actually really liked the movies, but i think for me it was moreso seeing my favs on screen, moving and talking again haha.
same here actually; they left out a lot of guts’ backstory and the fight with wyald (c’mon that would have looked badass) so that bothered me but i still really like them!
alright i should specify why i think the berserk movies are garbage. 1. The animation is really lazy. Every fight scene is in 3d. 2. The art style does not fit berserk. Most charactets dont look right and the colors feel dull and boring. 3. A lot of character developement was left out which is very strange considering that the movies were supposed to improve on the anime and include more stuff from the manga.
Overall i just do not feel that the movies were an accurate adaptation of the berserk golden age and that the anime despite its lack in budget did it much much better.
I really love the 3D style. I feel the movies captured the intense sense of movement that’s in the manga. It’s the main criticism of the movie that I don’t get because the style works for me. Two action sequences that blow me away every single time is Gut’s attack of the Iron Lances and the subsequent Hawk charge in Egg and Casca’s fight with Silat in Advent.
Everything else I agree with. I don’t care much for Egg because of all they cut out of the narrative, but the pace and atmosphere of Doldrey and Advent make up for it. Plus, like ippo-kun said, I also like to just watch them be on screen, so while I wish it were better, I don’t usually skip Egg. There are a few things the movies do that the anime didn’t that I preferred.
It boggles my mind that this is the same Guts. So much character development!

I’m rereading Berserk and I’m noticing all these little things, especially the moon symbolism
the moon in the golden age arc seems to be this little reminder of what’s going to happen in the end, and this one panel is fucking brilliant when you have that in mind
guts talking about how he only feels alive while he’s swinging his sword while his sword seems to pierce the moon
fuck
makes me finally understand how people buy into the whole “guts used the behelit so he could fight forever” theory that floats around on 4chan sometimes
Unless the Behelit is activated with blood, it doesn’t actually do anything besides be occasionally creepy by opening its eye.
I agree that the moon has significance, and it does foreshadow the Eclipse but only to a point. Every other time, like in this panel for instance, it signifies an important introspective moment for Guts. After he escapes from the mercenary camp after killing Gambino is another example, and also after he and Griffith fight Zodd and he’s on the rooftop.
And beyond being thematically important for Guts, the moon is what gives spirits their power, and it seems to be a source of power any magic wielder, giving credence to the fan theory that Guts is part-not-human,i.e elf ears, and generally surviving all this stuff, it would tie back into his narrative nicely, but not for the Guts is Doomed Theory (recently discussed this here). I’d have to reread the later arcs to site other examples, but the clearest one that comes to memory is the Moon Boy, who is this phenomenon come to life. It feels like the moon is source of natural magical power in the outside universe that counters to the Nature of Evil heart beating within the universe.
The Eclipse is literally the obscuring of the sun/moon. Without the moon, the Godhand can bring people to their universe, or bring the universe onto the surface of the planet. One of my favorite visuals is when Skull Knight breaks through the Eclipse in to save Guts and Casca, and he lets in the light of the moon, allowing him to escape with them.
guts reached for casca instinctually. there wasn’t a moment’s hesitation. oh, you’re falling off a mountainside? guess i’m going with you..
