About the Homestuck Animation… (Clearing Up Misinformation/Criticism)
A lot of people LOVE not doing their research when it comes to the new pilot that was just announced, especially because it has Vivziepop’s involvement; so here’s some FACTS to clear up the rumors.
1. She is NOT a writer or director for Homestuck. She is the executive producer and will have no say on the creative decisions.
2. All creative decisions will be ran through Andrew Hussie. He had final say on the VA’s, he was the one that reached out to SpindleHorse to collab, he is heavily involved in the process and will be a writer because, obviously.
3. It will not be under “SpindleHorse”. They are opening a new animation branch in Australia called SPINDLEROO. So that means even LESS contact with Vivziepop between the creatives if you’re so hung up about it.
4. The people involved who are ACTUALLY writing/directing are all people who have read the entirety of Homestuck, have been long time fans, in the fandom trenches all the way. They aim to bring the authentic Homestuck feel to this animation in a more consumable way.
5. I don’t know why people are confused with Toby Fox’s involvement. He’s practically besties with Andrew and has been involved with Homestuck for A LONG TIME. Longer than any one else. He’s VA’d in other projects as John before and has contributed a lot of music tracks to Homestuck.
6. It’s just a pilot. While they are planning on what looks to be a good chunk of Act 1, we don’t know if this will be it for the long haul. It might continue, it might get dropped. Let’s just wait and see.
The next one is an opinion:
7. “The Hazbin/Helluva fandom is gonna ruin the Homestuck fandom! / Hazbin fans are gonna join now!” - You DO know that Homestuck is one of the original “cringe” fandoms, correct?? Nothing can ruin Homestuck more than what it already is. If you haven’t been exposed to that part of the fandom, you’re just lucky. But with the addition of “purity” culture in fandom space recently, that’ll make it worse. And I guarantee a majority of Hazbin/Helluva fans are already Homestuck fans, including myself who has been part of it for 10+ years. Ask anyone involved and they’ll most likely tell you they were or are a part of the other fandom.
Everyone honestly needs to chill and stop trying to put preemptive blame on people. Let’s just see how it goes.
