This isnt a joke my favorite piece of writing advice that I’ve ever seen is someone that said if you were stuck with a fic and couldn’t figure out why or what was wrong, your problem is actually usually about ten sentences back. Maybe there was something wonky about the tone or the dialogue or you added something that didn’t fit but it’s usually ten sentences back. And every single time I get stuck in a fic I count back ten sentences and it’s always fucking there

“You’re more than welcome to take the couch,” Frank says without looking up from his laptop. “I’ll be up late working on this anyway, and I’d hate to disturb your beauty rest.”

The aforementioned couch is a massive leather monstrosity lurking in the other room of the suite. He’s relatively sure it folds out into a bed, and he’s likewise sure it’s a hell of a lot nicer than his own bed at home, which isn’t so much a bed as it is a blanket nest piled atop a mattress and box-spring he bought off the internet five years ago. Hell, if Jensen were anyone but Jensen, Frank would probably offer to take the couch himself.

Unfortunately, Jensen is very much Jensen, which means he’s currently stretched out next to Frank on the bed, drinking a whiskey and reviewing his notes on the conference and showing a completely unnecessary amount of skin. The little smirk he gives when Frank finally looks up to see if he’s listening is also completely unnecessary, largely because it does unfortunate things to Frank’s hindbrain.

“Beauty rest, huh?” Jensen says. He sounds amused.

“So?” Jensen’s smirk widens. Frank kinda wants to punch him, but that would involve touching and Jensen appears to have developed a pathological allergy to shirts. “What? What’s so funny?”

The smirk finally breaks into a wide, shit-eating grin. “You think I’m pretty,” Jensen says, and Frank barely restrains himself from throwing the laptop at him.

can we discuss how according to the datacube in the MJ-12 medical facility, Paul tests positive for the Grey Death but doesn’t have any symptoms of it???????????? 

I mean I’m only on the 6th mission here, but fucking hell, that seems like a serious plot point, and also parallels Jensen not being susceptible to Darrow Rejection Syndrome

and while we’re on the subject of Darrow….

he fashioned himself Daedalus, Icarus’ father. Icarus, in DX terms, is Adam.

been digging into DX lore again lately, and maybe you’re way ahead of this, but it definitely seems like Jensen’s DNA was used to make Paul Denton. There’s an email on a computer at Omega Ranch addressed to Darrow, written by a scientist, who talks about an experiment he’s doing using a DNA sample from a human with no aug rejection (Jensen). At the end of the email, the scientist says, “I hope you forgive my impetuosity, but I started naming the subjects with the names of the apostles. I believe it's befitting, considering the underlying subject and the importance of this leap forward.“ https://deusex.fandom.com/wiki/Omega_Ranch_computers#Simply_unbelievable As for Darrow being the Daedalus to Jensen’s Icarus, we all know that’s partly a metaphor about humanity getting cool new tech and then going off the rails bc of intrinsic lack of restraint/foresight. I think it’s a bit more specific, too, though. Darrow is genetically the “father”, the human of today, who cannot use augmentations. And it seems like Darrow’s research at White Helix in the 90s resulted in the birth of Adam Jensen, who is genetically the “child”, a human who represents the next step in evolution and who can naturally use augmentations. (Although... I think Jensen’s bio parents were employees at White Helix but i can’t help but notice the similarity in hairstyles/face between Darrow and Jensen now, lol. It would be funny if he was Jensen’s literal bio dad.) And, of course, it would then make sense that Adam's name is a biblical reference to him being the ‘first man’ and progenitor of JC and Paul and a whole new generation of aug-compatible humans. I dunno if this is a commonly known conclusion in the fandom, lol, and i’m really patchy on DXOG. Sorry if so.  Just thought your note about Paul’s Grey Death resistance is cool, and this is fun to think about. : D

writing fanfiction is just. i’m being so creative and original. i’m plagiarizing everyone by accident. i’m a genius. i’m cringe. i’m too angsty. i’m too cheesy. this is not in character. it doesn’t matter that it’s not in character because these are my characters now. i love my hobby. this is the worst possible use of my time. i’m seeking validation. i’m projecting my own personal problems onto this story and i’m barely hiding it. i know so many words and i’m using all of them wrong. im on tumblr posting about it instead of writing it.
