𝐂ommon VAMPIRE TROPES + how they relate to cecily !

mirrors:   vanishes  in  ONLY silver - backed  mirrors;  appears  in  modern  aluminum  ones.  the  problem  is  the  silver,  not  the  glass.

invitations:   invited  once,  always  welcome  until  denied  again.

sunlight:   a daylight ring  protects  her;  fatal  without  it.

shapeshifting:   none.

sleep:   normal  bed with multiple  cats  on  it  at  all  times.  the  coffin  thing  is  a  myth.

stake:   fatal  through  the  heart.

fire:   agonizing,  leaves  scars,  but  survivable  if  enough  of  her  body  remains.

decapitation:   fatal.

silver:   mildly  skin - irritating,  not  a  weapon.  uncomfortable  to  hold,  not  dangerous.

garlic:   sensory  assault  on  her  heightened  senses,  but it's not  magical.  a  raw  garlic clove  is  like a  biological  war  crime  to  her.

compulsion:   full  mesmerism  w/  eye  contact.  she's  terrifyingly  skilled  after  700  years.

turning:   blood  exchange - based.  drains  the  human  nearly  to  death,  then  they  have  to  drink  from  the  vampire.  it's  mutual,  intimate,  violent.

holy  symbols:   only  blessed  crucifixes  wielded  by  someone  who  has  truly  committed  their  life  to  faith  (  priests,  nuns,  monks  )  cause  real  harm.  anyone  else  waving  a  cross  at  her  =  mild  annoyance  at  best.  she  in  herself  has  become  a  saint,  making  her  vampiric  dynamic  with  religious  symbols  very  complicated.

something so sexy about how the three evangelical counsels ( or vows ) that cecily took as a nun are the three values she rejects the most present day. POVERTY ( renunciation of personal property & acceptance of communal ownership ) ? she lives in the lap of luxury & hedonism. yes, she's extremely gracious & charitable – but in no way does she deny herself the pleasure of luxury. CHASTITY ( perpetual virginity commitment & all sexual activity avoidance ) – she loves sex & frankly now finds the notion of denying oneself physical pleasure on behalf of a god ridiculous. OBEDIENCE ( submission to abbess & rule, hierarchical discipline acceptance within community ) — she's so long past allowing herself to be subjugated by anyone or anything.

i'm working on a study about before, when cecily was "sister cecilia" ... & my mind wanders to even earlier, when she was just "céci" to her family. in 700 years, cecily has never stopped missing & yearning for her mother & sisters. someday i'll give a proper lore post on mama noväk ... but it might break me 💔

vampire media is sooo inconsistent that i've just been doing my own thing, & i think i want to heavily adapt the idea of cecily's sense of smell being very supernaturally keen. things like being able to pick up on fear + anxiety ( cold sweat, ammonia ). misery + sadness ( salt from hormone shifts, mineralic ). anger + agitation ( hot sweat, acrid, copper ). lust + desire ( spicy + earthy, different per each person as it's a concoction of their specific pheromones ). even sometimes deceit / lying ... picking up on the "sour"-like surge in cortisol. the ability to identify someone solely based on their personal scent the second they walk in a room ... & being able to distinguish one person's blood from another by smell.

cecily has had so many names & titles throughout time, but this post is only about the legal ones. her birth name was cecilia noväk, & this name carried her all the way to st. margaret's abbey. there, she was sister cecilia– some sisters called her cecily. but the one she would've been known by throughout most of the early ages is cecilia noväková. she was inclined, like many other women of that time ( 14th century, black plague-era ), to add the -ová in order to distinguish herself in tax documents & such. though the -ová suffix is mandatory in the czech republic today, cecily no longer uses it as her primary citizenship is elsewhere. she dropped the suffix at the same time she went from cecilia to cecily, as a way of making her name less recognizable.

one thing to know about cecily is, she's VERY even - tempered &. agreeable ... until she isn't. she rarely raises her voice, doesn't fight just to fight, will remain composed in heated situations. but there's also another cecily in there sitting on the other end of a loong fuse. that cecily emerges when her patience finally snaps, when she's been deeply wronged, or when she feels threatened ( or abandoned ). she will scream, will curse, will become a volatile mass of her own rage or grief. things might get thrown at your head. if anything, this state is frightening because she's unpredictable. it's comparable to the way one with borderline "splits" &. sees the world / their relationships in terms of extremes. if she cared to seek such diagnoses, she'd definitely have one.

a brief study on cecily's favorite cats she's ever owned, as requested by @pawnedprince ( so long ago ) ♡♡

milena [ F ] &. zlata [ F ] ( bonded pair ) adopted circa 2019, hairless donskoys [ ... ] they come as a unit in every way. milena is loud &. forward, very willing to mingle with people. zlata prefers quiet time perched in cecily's lap or the library windowsill. milena has a tendency to scrap with other cats, so they're the only ones in her primary san francisco home.

brutus [ M ] — adopted circa 1820, black american shorthair [ ... ] a one-eyed alley cat that cecily picked up in london. brutus was tough &. smart, as well as incredibly bonded to cecily. he spent most nights roaming the streets for rats, &. would often bring cecily little ... "gifts". having a general dislike for humans, much less them touching him, brutus made cecily an exception. brutus lived in cecily's prague home until 1834.

saoirse [ F ] — adopted circa 1992, white turkish angora [ ... ] she was the prettiest cat cecily ever knew. her eyes were bright green, with long snow - white fur. survived numerous near - death experiences. she was particularly protective while cecily was most vulnerable, sleeping. lived in her edinburgh home until 2008.

teufel [ F ] &. engel [ M ] ( bonded pair ) adopted circa 2022, siamese [ ... ] their names literally mean 'devil' & 'angel' — &. trust that it's very apt. teufel has a nasty habit of knocking expensive decor or relics down right as guests are set to arrive, &. engel is serene &. therapeutic, often found sitting with cecily during her dark moments. they live in her prague home with 4 other cats.

miloš [ M ] — adopted circa 1937, hairless sphynx [ ... ] a cat with expensive taste &. criminal tendencies. was absolutely obsessed with shiny objects &. had a habit of accumulating his own "treasure hoard" under cecily's bed that includes missing earrings, rare coins, &. other small artifacts. he lived in her san francisco home until 1950.

cecily routinely kills off sirelings who "act out". when she turns you, she makes it very clear what she expects. you are sacrificing your humanity in order to survive, &. cecily holds herself accountable for what damage a sired vampire might do. she has trusted eyes all around the world; literally hundreds of sired vampires ... &. if it gets back to cecily that one of her own is causing chaos / leaving dead bodies around, she will come &. dispose of them herself. her belief in minimization of harm is something she holds very strictly to.

three guest bedrooms, styled similarly to cecily's master though not quite as spacious. one has an attached bathroom, the other two rely on guest bathrooms.

plants and foliage, every room in her home has some kind of houseplant within, usually multiple. she treasures her plants. lots of tall strelitzia, philodendron, and hanging ferns.

a large hazelnut wood veranda out back and multiple balconies on the second floor.

a spacious, well-kept garden located behind the house.
