They all said your body knows what to do when you give birth, but they never said how powerless you'd feel during it. You thought you'd be able to push with your body and it would all go smoothly, how wrong you were. You've lost track of time and each contraction drains more and more from you. Even though you lay there panting and sweating your body still pushes. Every muscle and joint aching with no relief in sight, at least it couldn't get any worse than this.
Wrong, the sudden and intense burning radiates from your hips as the baby makes its way through your birth canal. Pushing against your lips, bulging with each push eventually crowning. The sudden addition of fingers being shoved in between its head and your walls was intense. Then a nurse pushes on your belly as they pull the baby the rest of the way out. You nearly pass out from exhaustion alone, but you're done now you did it.
Then chaos erupts, another contraction and someone yells there's another one. You have to push but you can barely breath, a prisoner to your body as it takes over and pushes to expel the surprise twin.
This is a perfect scenario! Birthing the first twin is beyond agonizing, the torture building and building until at last my baby is forcibly pulled out of my abused body. I try to catch my breathe, to revel in the wonder of this creature my body has made. I want to ask if it's okay, to count its fingers and toes.
But my body is forcing me to push again, and I don't understand what's happening. It was only one. They promised me I was only carrying one! But I feel another body grinding down through my hips. Somehow, despite everything I've just been through, my lips parting a second time still burns enough to make me scream. There are so many hands prying at my opening and pressing on my still-filled belly. My vision is going black at the edges. I don't think I'm going to make it.
In my moments of awareness I see a doctor moving toward me with what I think must be forceps. The next thing I know is a pain even worse than what I've just been through. Finally, this unwelcome surprise is ripped from my battered hole.
